Cynthia Erivo has been cast as Dracula in a one-woman adaptation of Bram Stoker’s iconic vampire novel.

Set to premiere next year in London’s West End, the production comes from the Australian creatives and producers behind the Tony-nominated Broadway hit The Picture of Dorian Gray, which starred Succession’s Sarah Snook.

Erivo will play the titular Count, along with 22 supporting characters, in a production described as an “intoxicating, blood-pumping reimagining of the immortal gothic horror”.

Adapted and directed by Kip Williams, Dracula marks Erivo’s first role on stage since playing Celie in The Color Purple, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

“Returning to the stage feels like a homecoming, one that I’ve been craving for a long time. To do so with a story as rich, complex, and haunting as Dracula offers a beautiful opportunity to delve into character, into myth, and into the heart of what makes us human,” Erivo said in a statement.

“From the moment I was asked, I could not get the role out of my mind. Kip’s vision is thrilling, terrifying, and deeply resonant, offering a chance to sit with not only the darkness in the world, but also the light we fight to hold onto.

“It’s a rare gift for an actor to inhabit so many voices and perspectives in one piece, and I’m honoured to do it for West End audiences in this extraordinary production. The prospect of doing this show scares me and I know it will be a huge challenge. This show will ask everything of me — and I’m ready to give it.”

Photo: Universal Studios

William praised Erivo as “extraordinary” and a “singularly gifted artist”, revealing that his take on Dracula will offer “a contemporary perspective on the vampire as a monster that lurks not beyond, but within”.

In an interview with Deadline, Michael Cassel, producer and CEO of Australia’s Michael Cassel Group, confirmed that Erivo was approached for Dracula nine months ago as she was in the midst of her promotional tour for Wicked.

Erivo memorably played Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s acclaimed blockbuster, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

“She has really spent most of her time with Kip just talking through the inspiration and the dramaturgy of it all,” said Cassel. “For them to connect in that way has been important for them because this is a show that they go and create together.”

He confirmed that the production won’t be a “blueprint” of the Sydney version, which played at the Roslyn Packer Theatre in 2024 and starred Australian actress Zehra Newman as the ancient blood-sucker.

“I think what’s so exciting, I think for her, and for us, while we know what the story is, they get to go and create this role in the rehearsal room in London together,” continued Cassel, “and that was very appealing to Cynthia to put her own interpretation on the role and explore that with Kip.”

With Erivo playing 23 characters, including Dracula, Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray, Lucy Westenra and Van Helsing, Cassel “couldn’t be happier with Cynthia leading the charge”.

Dracula is set to haunt London’s Noël Coward Theatre for a strictly limited 16-week engagement from 4 February to 31 May 2026.

News of Erivo’s casting follows the recent announcement that she will take on the role of Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar.

The production will run at the Hollywood Bowl from 1 to 3 August, under the direction and choreography of Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo. Fellow Tony recipient Stephen Oremus will serve as musical director and conductor.

From his arrival in Jerusalem to his crucifixion, the iconic rock opera chronicles the final days of Jesus’s life, with a particular focus on Judas Iscariot’s crisis of faith and growing disillusionment with Jesus’ influence.

Adding to her packed schedule, Erivo is also set to reprise her role as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good, which hits cinemas on 21 November 2025.

Nicole Paige Brooks has spilt the tea on the queen who allegedly backed out of Drag Race All Stars 10.

On 9 May, fans will be treated to the popular drag franchise’s landmark tenth season of All Stars.

Described as the “Tournament of All Stars,” the new batch of episodes will feature 18 queens, who are divided into three groups of six, each competing in their own bracket across three episodes.

The synopsis adds: “At the end of each bracket, the top three queens with the highest point totals will then advance to the semi-finals.

“There, they’ll go head-to-head with the top queens from the other groups in another round of fierce competition over 3 episodes. The tournament will culminate in an epic Lip Sync Smackdown for the Crown, where the finalists will battle it out for a place in the coveted Drag Race Hall of Fame.”

While All Stars 10 is set to be the gaggiest Drag Race season yet, it almost featured a different lineup queens.

On 6 May, Nicole Paige Brooks took to TikTok live to spill some major tea about the forthcoming batch of episodes – including the alleged casting and pre-filming departure of season 14 queen Maddy Morphosis.

“See, what happened was, they sent us a list of names, and there was a girl on there, and we had to, you know, get ready to read this girl or whatever and then when we got to the hotel, she wasn’t there,” the season 2 queen explained.

Nicole went on to reveal that production came to their room with a laptop to explain the situation. However, midway through her story, the beloved talent asked a person off-screen if she should reveal the queen’s name.

Paramount Plus

“I don’t know what I can’t show them. Anyway, so they said, this drag queen who is also a heterosexual, I can just say that, is not going to be here, so this is the person who’s going to be here, they’re on season 17,” she continued.

“And they showed us videos, they were like, ‘Here’s a couple of her runways. Here’s her reading Mistress,’ because Mistress met her during filming. And that’s how we met Lydia, on the internet.”

When a viewer asked if it was Maddy, Nicole confirmed before giving further insight into how production incorporated Lydia into the cast.

“They were like, ‘Yeah, you got to pretend that you’ve already seen season 17.’ So, like, yeah it was really weird. But we were like, I guess she made an impression.”

Naturally, Drag Race fans flocked to social media to share their reactions to the juicy tea.

One X/Twitter user wrote: “Maan such a let down ,Production pre-briefing them on Lydia. Would’ve been so much fun and a gag for them to experience ms butthole no lube!”

Another viewer on Reddit echoed similar sentiments: “This is really juicy, but I pray she doesn’t get sued or something. Stay safe queen. PS – I hate that they made them watch Lydia on s17, it would be so funny to watch a random girl enter that no one knows.”

A third Drag Race fan added: “Honestly, Maddy dropping out is a good thing bcuz i would love to see her in a different all stars format. i think she has potential to go far, and i think she was underappreciated on her season.”

While Maddy isn’t appearing on All Stars 10, six of her season 14 sisters are set to return to the workroom for another shot at the crown.

The lineup is as follows: Acid Betty (season 8), Aja (season 9, All Stars 3), Alyssa Hunter (season 14), Bosco (season 14), Cynthia Lee Fontaine (season 8, 9), Daya Betty (season 14), Deja Skye (season 14), Denali (season 13) and Ginger Minj (season 7, All Stars 2, 6).

In a highly relatable moment, Drag Race star Morphine Love Dion expressed her admiration for Hasan Piker — and now, he’s responded!

On 27 March, the lip-sync assassin was one of many Drag Race stars to attend the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, as well as icons like Bobby Berk, Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, Dylan “Miss Demeanour” Efron, Jojo Siwa, Keke Palmer, Lil Nas X, Maren Morris, Michael Urie, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and more.

The evening was also attended by podcasters and social media personalities Austin Show and Will Neff, who conducted live interviews with celebrities on the red carpet via Twitch.Bet

In their interview with Morphine, Will asked the star if she’s aware of Hasan Piker, an American streamer, YouTuber and left-wing political commentator who continuously uses his platform to advocate for universal healthcare, intersectional feminism, gun control, Muslim rights and LGBTQIA+ rights.

Morphine immediately grasped the microphone and looked into the camera, responding: “Hasan, if you’re seeing this, I am obsessed with you. And I like you way more than him! If you’re into the dolls, let me know, or the non-binary dolls, you never know!”

Referencing the U.S. administration’s continuous attacks on the transgender community, Morphine added: “Well, now it’s Trump’s America I’ve got to pick a gender, so…”

In his own stream, Hasan watched the clip and, in the words of his fan account @antipiker, “he was so happy to be noticed”.

With joy plastered across his face, Hasan said: “Did [Will] try that again, after that? Probably not. Why would you ask, at the red carpet of the GLAAD Awards, if someone knows me? That’s crazy. Those are my people, right there.”

Both videos went viral on social media, with fans wondering “when are we getting Morphine putting Hasan in drag” and if the future holds an appearance for the drag legend on his Twitch streamHasanAbi”, which has almost three million followers.

“Morphine way more classy than me, because the things I would say in public…” tweeted one user, while another celebrated how their “WORLDS ARE COLLIDINNGGGGGGGG.”

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande delivered an epic performance at the Oscars, and fans (including us) are emotional.

On Sunday (2 March), the stars flocked to the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, for the 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien.

To kick off the evening’s festivities, Wicked stars Erivo and Grande brought viewers back to Oz with jaw-dropping renditions of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ from The Wizard of Oz and ‘Home’ from The Wiz.

In addition to singing tracks from two iconic Wizard of Oz films, the pair delivered a powerful performance of Wicked’s ‘Defying Gravity’ – filled with showstopping vocals and Erivo’s now iconic riff.

Naturally, Erivo and Grande’s reunion was an immediate hit with fans on social media, who showered the two vocal powerhouses with praise.

One viewer wrote: “This will be played at every gay guy music video night for years to come.”

Another fan tweeted: “No, cause I was sobbing something about wicked makes me so emotional can’t explain it.”

A third viewer echoed similar sentiments, writing: “The girls, gays and theys have been DREAMING of this moment, and it will be replayed until the end of time.”

“Sitting in front of my computer screen SOBBING. CYNTHIAAAAA,” a fourth fan added.

Wicked secured two out of its 10 nominations at the Academy Awards, including Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

The film’s Best Costume Design win also made Oscar history, with openly gay costume designer Paul Tazewell becoming the first Black man to take home the award.

While the Wicked: Part One era has come to a close, it’s not the end of the beloved adventure.

On 21 November, the highly anticipated sequel – Wicked: For Good – is due for release and will see the return of Erivo as Elphaba, Grande as Galinda/Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Picking up after the events of the first film, the upcoming feature will follow Elphaba and Glinda as they navigate their new titles as Wicked Witch of The West and Glinda the Good, respectively.

In addition to adapting the second half of the beloved Broadway musical, Wicked: For Good will feature not one but two original songs sung by Elphaba and Glinda.

“I don’t know if you’re ready for it. I mean, I love the song, and I remember when we filmed it, the cast and crew were crying,” Erivo teased on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast.

“So I don’t know. And I don’t know if that’s just because they were emotional that day or that’s what the song does.”

Grande also shared exciting details about her untitled Glinda song in a separate Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast episode.

“It’s a pivotal moment in Glinda’s journey. It shows a side of her we’ve never seen before. In the stage show, this transformation happens offstage,” she revealed.

“But in the movie, we get to see her make the decision that defines who she is. It’s a privilege to sing this song and be the first Glinda to bring it to life.”

Check out more fan reactions to Grande and Erivo’s performance below.

While we patiently await Wicked: For Good, revisit our interview with Erivo and Grande for Wicked below.

Cynthia Erivo has been cast as Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Playing at the Hollywood Bowl between 1 and 3 August, Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreograph, while Stephen Oremus (also a Tony winner!) will serve as musical director and conductor.

Erivo, who previously starred as Mary Magdalene in an all-female version in 2020, celebrated the news on Instagram as she wrote: “Just a little busy this summer, can’t wait.”

Jesus Christ Superstar was first released as a concept album in 1970. Its popularity paved the way for a Broadway debut in 1971, and it enjoyed an impressive eight-year run in London from 1972 to 1980, where it held the record for the longest-running West End musical at the time. (The record was later surpassed by Cats in 1989.)

The rock opera focuses on the last weeks of Jesus Christ’s life, from his entry into Jerusalem to his crucifixion. It places particular emphasis on Judas and his growing disillusionment with Jesus’ rise to fame and his internal conflict over his betrayal.

A post from Broadway World announcing Erivo’s casting was celebrated by stage legends such as Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Samantha Pauly and fellow Wicked alum Kristen Chenoweth.

Erivo is currently nominated for Best Actress at the 97th Academy Awards for her performance as Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s lauded adaptation of Wicked. If she wins, she will become the youngest ever performer to win the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).

The musical fantasy earned an additional nine nominations including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande, who succeeded Chenoweth as Glinda.

Wicked’s sequel, subtitled For Good, is due for release on 21 November and will see the return of Erivo and Grande, as well as Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Ariana Grande has addressed fans who are shipping her with Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo.

Back in November, moviegoers worldwide were finally treated to the highly anticipated film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: Part One explores the unlikely friendship between Elphaba Thropp (Erivo), a powerful young woman misunderstood and feared because of her green skin, and Galinda Upland (Grande), a blonde and whimsical woman “gilded by privilege and ambition.”

Following its release, the fantasy adventure became a smash hit amongst critics and viewers, who praised the film for its larger-than-life musical numbers, cast performances and special effects.

In addition to the aforementioned feats, Erivo and Grande’s heartwarming and tear-filled press tour for the film gained equal popularity on social media.

The singers’ various interviews were so beloved that some of their fans even shipped them together as a couple.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Grande addressed the speculation, joking that people think they’re “secretly married.

The “Yes, and?” artist also discussed the popular femslash ship “Gelphie”—which supports a romance between Elphaba and Glinda—and the intense fan art she encountered online.

“I wish I could unsee some things. I mean, wow, I had a feeling, but I didn’t know it would be on this scale or this graphic, she told the news outlet.

Grande’s recent sit down with The Hollywood Reporter isn’t the first time she dished about “Gelphie.

When speaking with GAY TIMES in December, the Dangerous Woman singer and Erivo gave insight into why the ship has become so popular with fans.

“I think Elphie is… She’s goes wherever the wind goes. I think she loves Glinda, I think she loves love. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrating the deep connection the both of them have, Erivo explained.

“They do have a real relationship. It is true love, which is probably why people are shipping it. What they build with each other is an unbreakable bond and love.”

Grande added: “And trust and truth and such a safe space for one another, which is what all relationships should be, whether it’s romantic or platonic.”

The ‘Into You singer went on to say that Glinda “might be a little in the closet and didn’t rule out a future where “Gelphie is canon in live-action: “You never know, give it a little more time. It is just a true love, and I think that transcends sexuality.

“It’s a deep safety within each other, and that’s why [fans] probably ship it.”
