Cynthia Erivo has been cast as Dracula in a one-woman adaptation of Bram Stoker’s iconic vampire novel.

Set to premiere next year in London’s West End, the production comes from the Australian creatives and producers behind the Tony-nominated Broadway hit The Picture of Dorian Gray, which starred Succession’s Sarah Snook.

Erivo will play the titular Count, along with 22 supporting characters, in a production described as an “intoxicating, blood-pumping reimagining of the immortal gothic horror”.

Adapted and directed by Kip Williams, Dracula marks Erivo’s first role on stage since playing Celie in The Color Purple, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

“Returning to the stage feels like a homecoming, one that I’ve been craving for a long time. To do so with a story as rich, complex, and haunting as Dracula offers a beautiful opportunity to delve into character, into myth, and into the heart of what makes us human,” Erivo said in a statement.

“From the moment I was asked, I could not get the role out of my mind. Kip’s vision is thrilling, terrifying, and deeply resonant, offering a chance to sit with not only the darkness in the world, but also the light we fight to hold onto.

“It’s a rare gift for an actor to inhabit so many voices and perspectives in one piece, and I’m honoured to do it for West End audiences in this extraordinary production. The prospect of doing this show scares me and I know it will be a huge challenge. This show will ask everything of me — and I’m ready to give it.”

William praised Erivo as “extraordinary” and a “singularly gifted artist”, revealing that his take on Dracula will offer “a contemporary perspective on the vampire as a monster that lurks not beyond, but within”.

In an interview with Deadline, Michael Cassel, producer and CEO of Australia’s Michael Cassel Group, confirmed that Erivo was approached for Dracula nine months ago as she was in the midst of her promotional tour for Wicked.

Erivo memorably played Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s acclaimed blockbuster, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

“She has really spent most of her time with Kip just talking through the inspiration and the dramaturgy of it all,” said Cassel. “For them to connect in that way has been important for them because this is a show that they go and create together.”

He confirmed that the production won’t be a “blueprint” of the Sydney version, which played at the Roslyn Packer Theatre in 2024 and starred Australian actress Zehra Newman as the ancient blood-sucker.

“I think what’s so exciting, I think for her, and for us, while we know what the story is, they get to go and create this role in the rehearsal room in London together,” continued Cassel, “and that was very appealing to Cynthia to put her own interpretation on the role and explore that with Kip.”

With Erivo playing 23 characters, including Dracula, Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray, Lucy Westenra and Van Helsing, Cassel “couldn’t be happier with Cynthia leading the charge”.

Dracula is set to haunt London’s Noël Coward Theatre for a strictly limited 16-week engagement from 4 February to 31 May 2026.

News of Erivo’s casting follows the recent announcement that she will take on the role of Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar.

The production will run at the Hollywood Bowl from 1 to 3 August, under the direction and choreography of Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo. Fellow Tony recipient Stephen Oremus will serve as musical director and conductor.

From his arrival in Jerusalem to his crucifixion, the iconic rock opera chronicles the final days of Jesus’s life, with a particular focus on Judas Iscariot’s crisis of faith and growing disillusionment with Jesus’ influence.

Adding to her packed schedule, Erivo is also set to reprise her role as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good, which hits cinemas on 21 November 2025.

Chappell Roan has set the record straight on her feelings about Bowen Yang’s Saturday Night Live sketch.

Back in September, the Fire Island star was accused of mocking ‘The Giver’ singer when he portrayed the viral pygmy hippo Moo Deng on Weekend Update.

In the sketch, Yang’s character opened up about the challenges of her viral fame, disclosing that she had been “going nonstop, running around, eating lettuce, trying to bite the water from a hose. And the response has been overwhelming.”

“But it has come to the point where I need to set some boundaries. Reminder, women owe you nothing. When I’m in my enclosure tripping over stuff, biting my trainer’s knee, I am at work. That is the project,” Moo Deng exclaimed.

“Do not yell my name or expect a photo just because I’m your parasocial bestie or because you appreciate my talent. The only hippos in media were either hungry, hungry or Jada Pinkett Smith in Madagascar.

“But now I’m your favourite hippo’s favourite hippo.”

Towards the end of the sketch, Collin Jost pointed out that Moo Deng’s complaints were similar to Roan’s recent statements about fame, which resulted in Yang telling everyone to leave the singer alone.

Following the episode’s release, some of Roan’s fans accused the Wicked star of making fun of the ‘Pink Pony Club’ singer and her journey navigating the entertainment industry.

While Yang shut down the claims at the time, the ‘Hot to Go’ singer has remained mum about her thoughts on the sketch… until now.

When discussing the skit and fan backlash during a recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, Roan revealed to co-hosts Matt Rogers and Yang that she “wasn’t even mad”.

“I was like, ‘I bet she thinks it’s funny,'” said Rogers, prompting the ‘Coffee’ songstress to say, “I did! I didn’t feel anything.”

Yang also recalled the conversation he had with Roan’s drag mother, Sasha Colby, who assured him that the singer wasn’t angry.

“Sasha Colby and I were talking, and I was just like, ‘Yeah, everyone’s mad,'” he said. “I was like, ‘Is she okay?’ And Sasha was like, ‘Yeah, girl, she’s laughing. She’s loving it.’ I was like, ‘Okay, well, then that’s fine.'”

Building upon Yang’s story, Roan assured fans that they don’t have to get mad on her behalf, adding: “We’re fine. So what is there to be mad about? Also, this is what happens, that is SNL. It’s comedy.

“And for people to – even if you were to push it further, harmless. It’s comedy. I don’t understand. I just don’t know the line anymore. Even if you didn’t think the Moo Deng sketch was funny or anything, you didn’t have to say anything.”

Toward the end of the segment, Roan doubled down on not being offended by the skit, stating that she didn’t feel protected or unprotected.

“People sticking up for me in that situation, or not sticking up for me, made me feel no different. Because I didn’t need it either way. Because I was not offended,” she concluded.

Prime Video’s Cruel Intentions series has come to an end.

Back in November, TV viewers were first treated to the queer-inclusive teen drama, which stars The White Lotus star Sarah Catherine Hook and Gossip Girl’s Savannah Lee Smith.

Based on the hit 1999 film of the same name, Cruel Intentions follows “two ruthless step-siblings,” Caroline Merteuil (Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess), who go to “will do anything to stay on top of the cutthroat social hierarchy.”

However, instead of taking place at an elite private high school in the Upper East Side of New York City, the show is set at a posh college in Washington, D.C.

The synopsis adds: “After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Greek Life system, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation – even if that means seducing Annie Grover (Smith), the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. Hearts will be broken, loyalties will be tested, and secrets will be revealed in this modern-day royal court that is Manchester College.”

While Cruel Intentions received mixed reviews from critics, it was a hit amongst TV viewers, who praised the show for its dynamic storylines, witty writing and LGBTQIA+ representation – specifically regarding queer characters Blaise Powell (John Harlan Kim) and Scott Russell (Khobe Clarke).

Unfortunately, Catherine, Annie and Lucien won’t be returning to the scandalous Manchester College campus for a new term.

According to Variety, Prime Video has cancelled the Phoebe Fisher and Sarah Goodman-led series after one season.

Prime Video

As of writing, the popular streamer has yet to release a statement regarding the cancellation.

Since the news was announced, fans flocked to social media to express their disappointment over the decision.

One viewer tweeted: “Prime really sabotaged Cruel Intentions like the lack of promo was insane. We didn’t find out it was releasing until a month before it dropped and then they dropped the episodes all at once.”

Another fan wrote: “Once again a show they gave zero promo when it was so fun, and we need more college-aged shows.”

Prime Video

A third fan added: “We can’t have fun, crazy teen dramas anymore.”

The original Cruel Intentions starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe as two wicked step-siblings who plan to steal the innocence of their headmaster’s daughter, played by Reese Witherspoon.

Like its TV show counterpart, the film received mixed reviews. However, the three leads received widespread critical acclaim for their performances, resulting in Cruel Intentions becoming one of the most popular teen films in pop culture.

Gellar and Selma Blair’s iconic kiss also proved to be historic at the time due to the lack of representation of same-sex intimacy in mainstream media.

Cruel Intentions, the TV series is available to stream on Prime Video.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande delivered an epic performance at the Oscars, and fans (including us) are emotional.

On Sunday (2 March), the stars flocked to the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, for the 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien.

To kick off the evening’s festivities, Wicked stars Erivo and Grande brought viewers back to Oz with jaw-dropping renditions of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ from The Wizard of Oz and ‘Home’ from The Wiz.

In addition to singing tracks from two iconic Wizard of Oz films, the pair delivered a powerful performance of Wicked’s ‘Defying Gravity’ – filled with showstopping vocals and Erivo’s now iconic riff.

Naturally, Erivo and Grande’s reunion was an immediate hit with fans on social media, who showered the two vocal powerhouses with praise.

One viewer wrote: “This will be played at every gay guy music video night for years to come.”

Another fan tweeted: “No, cause I was sobbing something about wicked makes me so emotional can’t explain it.”

A third viewer echoed similar sentiments, writing: “The girls, gays and theys have been DREAMING of this moment, and it will be replayed until the end of time.”

“Sitting in front of my computer screen SOBBING. CYNTHIAAAAA,” a fourth fan added.

Wicked secured two out of its 10 nominations at the Academy Awards, including Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

The film’s Best Costume Design win also made Oscar history, with openly gay costume designer Paul Tazewell becoming the first Black man to take home the award.

While the Wicked: Part One era has come to a close, it’s not the end of the beloved adventure.

On 21 November, the highly anticipated sequel – Wicked: For Good – is due for release and will see the return of Erivo as Elphaba, Grande as Galinda/Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Picking up after the events of the first film, the upcoming feature will follow Elphaba and Glinda as they navigate their new titles as Wicked Witch of The West and Glinda the Good, respectively.

In addition to adapting the second half of the beloved Broadway musical, Wicked: For Good will feature not one but two original songs sung by Elphaba and Glinda.

“I don’t know if you’re ready for it. I mean, I love the song, and I remember when we filmed it, the cast and crew were crying,” Erivo teased on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast.

“So I don’t know. And I don’t know if that’s just because they were emotional that day or that’s what the song does.”

Grande also shared exciting details about her untitled Glinda song in a separate Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast episode.

“It’s a pivotal moment in Glinda’s journey. It shows a side of her we’ve never seen before. In the stage show, this transformation happens offstage,” she revealed.

“But in the movie, we get to see her make the decision that defines who she is. It’s a privilege to sing this song and be the first Glinda to bring it to life.”

Check out more fan reactions to Grande and Erivo’s performance below.

Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer had a long-awaited Fellow Travelers reunion, and fans are ecstatic.

On 23 February, the White Collar star attended a performance of the Bridge Theater’s new production of Richard II, starring the hunky Bridgerton and Wicked star.

“What a phenomenal performance by @jbayleaf, and the entire cast of Richard II at the @_bridgetheatre,” Bomer wrote on Instagram.

“Beautifully directed and acted. If you’re in London, don’t miss it. And if you’re not in London, it’s worth the trip! Congratulations my friend! Now through May 10.”

Thankfully, the gay gods made sure that we’d see Bomer and Bailey’s reunion – with photos and videos of them at the backstage door flooding social media after the show.

In one wholesome clip, Bailey brought Bomer to a fan who had Fellow Travelers tattooed on their forearm.

“Thank you for stepping out, Matt. Fellow Travelers means everything to me,” the fan exclaimed in the video.

In response, Bomer expressed his gratitude to the individual, telling them: “Wow, that’s incredible!”

Bailey added: “I had to show him that amazing tattoo.”

Of course, the pair’s reunion and aforementioned video was an immediate hit with fans.

One Bailey and Bomer enthusiast wrote: “Beautiful friendship!! I love them.”

Another fan tweeted: “In 2025. Please protect them and their friendship from all evils.”

A third user added, “HawkTim together again,” alongside a string of crying face emojis.

“Matt hopping on that 10 hrs flight to go support his Jonny! I love my dads!!!” another fan commented.

Back in October 2023, Fellow Travelers captivated LGBTQIA+ TV viewers worldwide.

Based on the lauded Thomas Mallon novel of the same name, Bomer and Bailey respectively led the series as Hawkins Fuller and Tim Laughlin.

Fellow Travelers chronicles the highs and lows of their relationship over the course of four decades whilst exploring the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the “drug-fueled disco hedonism” of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

Additional cast members include Jelani Alladin as Marcus Gaines, Linus Roache as Senator Wesley Smith, Noah J. Ricketts as Frankie Hines, Allison Williams as Lucy Smith, Will Brill as Roy Cohn and Chris Bauer as Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Upon its release, the show received universal acclaim, with viewers and critics praising the series for its stellar acting performances, gripping subject matter and the electric chemistry between Bomer and Bailey.

The show also made waves during the 2024 award cycle, earning two Golden Globes nominations and three Emmy nominations – including Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Bomer and Bailey, respectively.

While Fellow Travelers has been billed as a “miniseries”, showrunner Ron Nyswaner and producer Robbie Rogers told Entertainment Weekly in September 2023 that it could possibly develop into an anthology that would “track different queer fellow travelers across history”.

“Yes, I think that there are many stories to be told, and Robbie and I have spoken in detail. Because of the strike, we haven’t spoken to any of our studio executives about it,” said Nyswaner.

In a follow-up conversation with GAY TIMES, Nyswaner said he hasn’t “shared those discussions with his “employers, so this will be news to them!”

Describing the series as “one of the greatest experiences of his life, the creator teased of the show’s future: “If I can continue, in some way, that’s a conversation to be had with the people who will be financing that. But, we will be having that conversation.”

Just Like Us has launched an “invaluable” guide for parents on how to be better allies to their LGBTQIA+ children.

LGBT+ Guide for Parents: How all families can be more inclusive and supportive has been released today, 24 February, to combat a resurgence of anti-LGBTQIA+ language amongst primary school children and archaic public discourse surrounding LGBTQIA+ lives.

The LGBTQIA+ youth charity engaged with queer youth to hear about their experiences and consulted over 100 parents. The guide emphasises the importance of having “positive and open conversations” about LGBTQIA+ topics and identities with children, encouraging them to celebrate differences.

Other topics covered include unlearning stereotypes about LGBTQIA+ people, advocating for inclusivity in your child’s school, and offering support if your child comes out.
Research from Just Like Us reveals that 78% of primary school pupils and 80% of secondary school pupils have encountered homophobic language.

Yet, a third of British parents have never discussed what LGBTQIA+ means with their child.

Although most straight parents view themselves as supportive of LGBTQIA+ people, a third (31%) of LGBTQIA+ young people remain uncertain about their parents’ acceptance, and nearly half (46%) are estranged from at least one family member.

Amy Ashenden, author of the LGBT+ Guide for Parents and Director of Communications and Engagement at Just Like Us, said: “As a parent myself, I know so many of us really want to do the best for our children and make sure they grow up knowing how incredible and loved they are.

“But many LGBT+ young people struggle, even in families where parents aren’t homophobic, because sometimes there’s just a lack of knowledge of how to approach this topic.

“I hope this guide helps more parents, carers and wider family members feel empowered to open up conversations at home and be proud allies to the LGBT+ community. Whether or not your child is LGBT+, or they don’t know yet, this guide is for everyone. Together, we can show the next generation that there is no shame in being LGBT+.”

Dr Maryhan Munt, parenting expert, psychologist and host of the podcast How Not To Screw Up Your Kids, added: “Just Like Us have given us all – parents, educators, neighbours, employers, and the wider community – a clear understanding of what LGBT+ allyship REALLY is, and it’s in our actions not just in the words we use.

“I am already challenging my own inherited stereotypes of those who identify as LGBT+ through well-informed education, so I can truly embody allyship.”

Bridget, the mother of a “young lesbian who came out to us in her teens”, said the guide would have been “invaluable” to their family: “Although we are close and supportive, there is so much more to being a good ally and hearing the voices of so many young people quoted here is inspirational.”

The guide has been backed by stars such as Jonathan Bailey, Jessie Ware, Annie Mac, Lauren Rowles, Hannah Witton, Sandi Toksvig and John Bishop.

Bailey, who is a patron of Just Like Us, said: “As parents you want the best for your children – you want them to feel safe, be confident, and thrive. Any home can welcome in a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

“There should be no shame in parents not understanding or knowing how best to support their LGBTQ+ children and their straight children to be allies – only shame in parents who don’t endeavour to protect, nurture, and celebrate their LGBTQ+ children.”

The Wicked star concluded: “Just Like Us is doing the incredible work of offering our parents’ generation an education that wasn’t available to them when they were young.”

Ware stressed the importance of children, as well as her own, “growing up in a world where they feel safe, loved, accepted for exactly who they are, knowing that love is love, and that standing up for others matters.”

Mac praised the guide’s ‘deliberately wide scope’ for different parenting styles and families, while Whitton described it as an “incredibly useful guide and resource for ALL parents”.

Rowles said: “As a LGBT+, disabled parent myself, this guide is invaluable and shows that LGBT+ people come from all walks of life. All parents can and should lead the way in teaching their children to be allies to the LGBT+ community and this guide shows you how.”

“As a parent and grandparent, who is also part of the LGBT+ community, I encourage all families to read Just Like Us’ LGBT+ Guide for Parents,” added Toksvig. “It’s so vital that talking about LGBT+ people doesn’t become a taboo topic at home, and this guide helps lead the way.”

Bishop said: “Being a parent can often feel daunting for anyone because we all want our children to thrive and live happy lives in a world that is increasingly different from the one we grew up in.

“For parents of a child who is a member of the LGBT+ community things may feel even more daunting as it may feel your child is embarking on a life that you have little experience of and you don’t know the best way to support them.

“This guide from Just Like Us helps to answer some of the questions that you may have so that you can be a parent and also an ally to your child and their community. We all love our children and that love is only enhanced when we are able to understand them more and that is why the work of Just Like Us is so vital.”

The comedian and presenter continued: “Read the guide, give them a hug, be available to them and trust me, they will make your life more colourful and it will all turn out OK in the end.”

Cynthia Erivo has been cast as Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Playing at the Hollywood Bowl between 1 and 3 August, Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreograph, while Stephen Oremus (also a Tony winner!) will serve as musical director and conductor.

Erivo, who previously starred as Mary Magdalene in an all-female version in 2020, celebrated the news on Instagram as she wrote: “Just a little busy this summer, can’t wait.”

Jesus Christ Superstar was first released as a concept album in 1970. Its popularity paved the way for a Broadway debut in 1971, and it enjoyed an impressive eight-year run in London from 1972 to 1980, where it held the record for the longest-running West End musical at the time. (The record was later surpassed by Cats in 1989.)

The rock opera focuses on the last weeks of Jesus Christ’s life, from his entry into Jerusalem to his crucifixion. It places particular emphasis on Judas and his growing disillusionment with Jesus’ rise to fame and his internal conflict over his betrayal.

A post from Broadway World announcing Erivo’s casting was celebrated by stage legends such as Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Samantha Pauly and fellow Wicked alum Kristen Chenoweth.

Erivo is currently nominated for Best Actress at the 97th Academy Awards for her performance as Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s lauded adaptation of Wicked. If she wins, she will become the youngest ever performer to win the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).

The musical fantasy earned an additional nine nominations including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande, who succeeded Chenoweth as Glinda.

Wicked’s sequel, subtitled For Good, is due for release on 21 November and will see the return of Erivo and Grande, as well as Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

While we patiently await For Good and Erivo’s performance as Jesus Christ, revisit our interview with Erivo and Grande for Wicked below.

Chappell Roan has added another feat to her growing list of accomplishments.

On 18 February, Billboard announced that the beloved talent’s powerful anthem, ‘Pink Pony Club,’ reached the number nine spot on the Hot 100 chart.

The track, which recently rose to number 18 last week, has become Chappell’s second top 10 hit after her 2024 stand-alone single ‘Good Luck, Babe,’ which peaked at number four in September.

‘Pink Pony Club’ is also the first Billboard top ten hit from the ‘Casual’ singer’s critically acclaimed 2023 album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

The exciting news comes a few days after Chappell took to Instagram to celebrate the song’s recent ascent on the charts and its sixth anniversary.

“6 years ago, Pink Pony Club was born. We wrote it in 2 days (very fast bc most songs take me literally years to finish). It was quite confusing because I had never written a song like it, she wrote.

“Where did it come from? I swear to god it was spiritual, it had to be. Thank you for lifting her up all these years. Thank god I wrote a song that scared the hell out of me, she had my back the whole time, still to this very day.

“Welcome to the pink pony club where boys and girls can all be queens every single day bitch <333333 this is so corny but literally follow your wicked dreams, ok Tootles!”

While Chappell’s debut album continues to make waves on the charts, the young talent has started to set the stage for her exciting new music era.

In November, the ‘Naked in Manhattan’ singer surprised fans when she debuted her new sapphic country anthem, ‘The Giver.’

Dressed in a stunning Western-inspired ensemble and voluminous hair reminiscent of Dolly Parton, Chappell oozed confidence while singing the track’s cheeky lyrics about expertly pleasing a woman and “getting the job done”.

Despite it being a hit with fans, Chappell remained mum on ‘The Giver’ and its future… until now.

Over the weekend, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter teased a mysterious phone number –620-HOT–TOGO– on her Instagram story.

Upon dialling, fans were treated to three different clips of ‘The Giver, based on the number they selected via the dial-tone menu.

Chappell continued to fuel anticipation when she announced the pre-order for ‘The Giver’ – Lawyer Edition 7 vinyl.

“THE LAWYER. Ur ex’s worst nightmare + she gets the job DONE. Ps keep ur eyes peeled, she may be on a billboard in your town, she wrote.

Naturally, fans flocked to social media to express their excitement for the upcoming release of ‘The Giver.’

“WHAT IF CHAPPELL RELEASES THE GIVER TOMORROW ON HER BIRTHDAY….” one fan tweeted.

Another Chappell enthusiast commented: “I’m sorry for the person I’ll be when Chappell drops the giver.”

As of writing, the ‘Coffee’ singer has not announced an official release date for ‘The Giver.’ However, the aforementioned vinyls are expected to ship on 18 August.
