Lorde has opened up about the creative process behind her fourth studio album, Virgin, revealing that a “reexamination of her gender expression” played a significant role in its formation.

In an interview with artist Martine Syms for Document Journal, the New Zealand singer shared that she has recently “come into my masculinity a bit more,” and that her new album is a “byproduct” of “fully coming into my body and feeling the fullness of my power.”

While discussing her guest performance with Charli XCX at Coachella, Syms observed that the duo resembled “two really strong, powerful people who are also both hot and talented and having fun, getting to be themselves in a way that probably wasn’t possible 20 years ago.”

Lorde credited ongoing progress in the music industry and popular culture, “where it feels like this room for your humanity or being yourself is a little bit more prized.”

Ahead of creating Virgin, Lorde said she “read a lot of queer writers,” and revealed that the album began to take shape after she wrote the lead single, ‘What Was That,’ which marked a “rebirth” of her artistry.

“I had come back from London to New York after this period of great turbulence in my personal life,” Lorde explained. “Becoming single, but also really facing my body stuff head-on, and starting to feel my gender broadening a little bit.

“Just being back in my house and feeling this big wave of grief. I just kept thinking, What was all of that? Whether it was my seven-year relationship or a pandemic or sacrificing my body to my career since I was 16 or 17.

“This feeling of, Oh, my God, so much has moved through me. And there’s so much mystery and pain. I just held the mic and sort of walked around the room and said it all. I didn’t write anything down, which was cool.”

In an email to fans unveiling the title and cover of Virgin—which features a blue-toned X-ray of a pelvis with a visible IUD—Lorde described the album as a reflection of her femininity. Among the words she used to characterise that femininity was “masc”.

“THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR. LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE,” she wrote.

“I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC.”

Due for release 27 June, Virgin marks Lorde’s first full-length album since Solar Polar (2021), which delivered singles such as the title track, ‘Stoned at the Nail Salon’, ‘Fallen Fruit’ and ‘Mood Ring’.

Virgin‘s aforementioned lead single, ‘What Was That’, was met with overwhelming praise from fans and critics and debuted at number-one in her home country. Additionally, the electropop banger became her first chart-topper on US Spotify since her 2011 debut single ‘Royals’.

Here are all the celebs who have supported the trans community by wearing Conner Ives’ viral t-shirt.

Back in February, Ives closed out his 2025 autumn/winter show at London Fashion Week wearing a white t-shirt with the phrase “Protect The Dolls” displayed on the front.

The slogan is commonly used by members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies in support of trans women, who are affectionately known as the “dolls”.

When asked about his decision to wear the powerful shirt, Ives told GQ: “My autumn-winter ’25 show was a response to the times we find ourselves in. Rather than giving in and admitting defeat, I want to say something with my chest. It was a message that felt the most urgent.”

Over the last few months, the powerful t-shirt has made massive waves within the fashion and pop culture sphere, resulting in Ives selling the garment on his website to raise money for Trans Lifeline.

The “Protect The Dolls” shirt has also been embraced by an array of celebrities, with some even wearing the piece at big-name events and premieres.

One celeb who has worn the statement piece numerous times is The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal. The beloved talent and longtime LGBTQIA+ ally was photographed in the shirt while celebrating his 50th birthday.

Pascal also sported the top while attending the UK premiere of the upcoming Marvel film Thunderbolts.

Troye Sivan and Addison Rae also wore Ives’ shirt during their respective appearances in Charli XCX’s headline Coachella set.

Lastly, Tilda Swinton sported the iconic statement piece in a selfie which was post on Ives’ Instagram story.

On 15 April, Ives reflected on the shirt’s impact in a heartfelt post on Instagram, writing: “I never had any idea what this would turn into, what we would be able to do with the printing of a tee.

“Couldn’t be more proud of everyone that made this possible. The early adapters (Haider, Pedro, Troye) that made it a thing, the stylists that connected the dots (and bought the tees! No press loans here) and the hordes of people that have donated to @translifeline.

“Moments like these remind me why I do this! Clothes that become something bigger. Absolutely wild. Thank you all.”

The “Protect The Dolls” t-shirt has arrived at a time when trans people worldwide are facing increased scrutiny and attacks from politicians and conservative figures.

From the 47th president of the United States issuing anti-trans executive orders to the UK Supreme Court’s rulling excluding trans women from the legal definition of womanhood – the rights of trans people are being targeted and dismantled from every corner.

Released earlier this month, MAYHEM made history as Gaga’s most acclaimed studio album to date with a rating of 84/100 on Metacritic.

Featuring the lauded singles ‘Disease’ and ‘Abracadabra’, as well as future hits ‘Killah’, ‘Zombieboy’ and ‘Shadow of a Man’ (we could honestly name the whole album), MAYHEM debuted at number-one in various territories – including the UK and U.S. – and was the biggest female debut of the year on Spotify.

The new era has been one for the herstory-books, with Mother hitting new peaks critically and commercially. Her Bruno Mars-assisted single ‘Die With A Smile’ has broken records as Spotify’s longest-running number-one, while ‘Abracadabra’ became her highest solo debut on the platform.

Additionally, Gaga surpassed her ‘Rain On Me’ collaborator Ariana Grande to become the female artist with the most monthly Spotify listeners.

Charli XCX is reportedly being eyed to join Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated Chronicles of Narnia adaptation.

Back in 2023, it was announced that the Barbie filmmaker would be writing and directing two films based on the critically acclaimed book series of the same name.

Shortly after the news was revealed, Gerwig opened up about signing on to the Netflix project while appearing on the Total Film podcast.

“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it, but I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start,” she explained.

“I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And it’s exciting.”

While details surrounding its release have slowly been announced, information about the film’s cast has been kept under wraps… until now.

On 6 March, Deadline reported that Charli XCX – pop superstar and founder of BRAT Summer – is being considered for the role of Jadis the White Witch – who Tilda Swinton famously played in the mid-2000s films.

According to the news outlet, the ‘365’ singer is one of the studio’s top choices for the role. While nothing is concrete, conversations regarding Charli’s potential involvement have reportedly been going on for a while.

Of course, the news of Charli potentially playing The White Witch resulted in chaotic reactions from fans on social media.

“Lucy, Edmund, Peter & Susan walking into Narnia and seeing rave lights and seeing everybody doing a lil key doing a lil line,” one fan tweeted.

Another social media user commented: “Greta has never disappointed with her casting decisions, so I’m seated for this.”

A third fan wrote: “Ooh she’s really coming for this EGOT status.”

Aside from potentially starring in Gerwig’s upcoming Narnia film, Charli is set to have a very busy year.

In April, the Grammy-winning talent will be performing at not one but three festivals – Axe Ceremonia 2025, Tecate Pal Norte 2025 and the California-based Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

That same month, she’ll embark on a BRAT Arena Tour – which ends in May – before performing on the summer festival circuit starting in June, including a headline spot at Glastonbury 2025.

As of writing, neither Charli nor Netflix has addressed the casting rumours.

Chappell Roan has reflected on her top ten looks of the year.

It’s safe to say that 2024 was a monumental year for the pop superstar.

Following the release of her stand-alone pop anthem, ‘Good Luck, Babe!’, Chappell catapulted to mainstream superstardom, with critics and fans praising the song for its unapologetic queerness and themes of compulsory heterosexuality.

The ‘Coffee’ singer’s 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, subsequently began to climb the worldwide charts, hitting number one in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand and number two spot on the Billboard Hot 200.

Additionally, various tracks from the album have become sleeper hits such as ‘Pink Pony Club’, ‘Red Wine Supernova and ‘Hot to Go! – especially the latter, which went viral as a result of its music video’s iconic choreography.

With 2024 coming to a close, Chappell took to her Instagram to go over her top 10 favourite looks of the year.

“My top 10 personal ranking of my most iconic looks of the year, she wrote. “It’s my OPINION!!! + why yes, I do consider myself to be unique.

Chappell’s ranking was as follows:

10: The whimsical Marie Antoinette look from her February Stephen Colbert performance.

9: The fierce wrestler outfit from her Lollapalooza appearance.

8: The ethereal Barbie Swan Lake ensemble from her Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon performance.

7: The Lady Miss Kier-inspired butterfly outfit from Coachella Weekend 2.

6: The iconic Joan of Arc number from her MTV Video Music Awards performance.

5: The Glam punk rock ‘Eat Me body suit and leopard print leggings from Coachella Weekend 1.

4: The medieval sheer gown from the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet.

3: The dragtastic pink beauty queen ensemble from her showstopping NPR Tiny Desk performance.

2: The medieval pig nose look from Universal’s Grammy After Party/ Good Luck, Babe! cover art.

1: The stunning Statue of Liberty outfit from Gov Ball.

Shortly after uploading her post, fans took to the comment section to react to Chappell’s top 10 looks.

One person wrote: “You’re actually the realest for making this list for yourself imo.

Another fan commented: “I was panicking the whole time thinking the gov ball would not be on the list.”

A third person wrote: “Accurate ranking BUT Coachella weekend 2 look is so superior.

While Chappell has officially closed out 2024, the new year is set to be equally iconic for the ‘Naked in Manhattan’ singer.

On 2 February, the beloved talent will attend the 67th Grammy Awards as a first-time nominee. She secured six nods in November 2024, including Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist.

Chappell will also debut her new music in 2025. In a September interview with Rolling Stone, the ‘After Midnight’ artist teased her next single.

“[The next single] needs to have more grit, whether that means more pop grit or rock grit or just bite to the lyrics, she said.

“Anything that I listen to — Joan Jett, Heart, Gaga — I want to feel like them. So I’ll just be inspired by that feeling and how I can capture it.”

Chappell also confirmed that she was working on her sophomore album and had already completed five/six tracks.

“We have a country song. We have a dancy song. We have one that’s really 80s, and we have one that’s acoustic, and we have one that’s really organic, live-band, 70s vibe. It’s super weird, she revealed.

We can’t wait to see Chappell Roan continue to thrive in 2025.

Pop icon Lady Gaga has shared some exciting details on LG7.

Back in August, the ‘Bad Romance’ singer teamed up with Bruno Mars for their epic ballad, ‘Die With A Smile.’

Backed by soaring vocals and a cinematic pop-rock production, the track was an instant hit with music listeners and critics – with many praising its 70s-esque style and Gaga and Mars’ expert songwriting abilities.

In a statement, Gaga said the single was a result of her and Bruno’s “mutual respect for each other.”

“I was finishing up my own album in Malibu, and one night after a long day, he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on, she reminisced. “It was around midnight when I got there, and I was blown away when I heard what he had started making.

“We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song. Bruno’s talent is beyond explanation. His musicianship and vision is next level. There’s no one like him.”

While many Little Monsters (including us) assumed that ‘Die with a Smile was released as a standalone single, Gaga recently teased its big role on her highly anticipated seventh studio album.

In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, the ‘Free Woman artist confirmed that the track is featured on LG7 – describing it as a “missing piece.”

“Die With a Smile is on my record – it’s a huge part of my album, she told the news outlet.

In addition to confirming the track’s placement on her untitled album, Gaga described the upcoming project as a record full of her “love of music.

“So many different genres, so many different styles, so many different dreams. It leaps around genre in a way that’s almost corrupt, she explained to the publication.

“And it ends with love. That’s the answer to all the chaos in my life is that I find peace with love. Every song that I wrote, I just kept getting kind of swept away in these different dreams I was having about the past –– almost like a recollection of all these bad decisions that I made in my life. But it ends in this very happy place.

Gaga’s recent interview comes a few months after she dropped the lead single to LG7, ‘Disease.’

Produced by Gaga with Andrew Watt and Cirkut, the pop banger features the Grammy-winning talent tap back into her iconic dark pop sound reminiscent of the EDM and industrial influences featured on her Born This Way album.

Days after releasing ‘Disease,’ Gaga treated fans to the single’s bloody, twisted and thought-provoking music video.

Reflecting on the meaning of the video, Gaga said: “I think a lot about the relationship I have with my own inner demons. It’s never been easy for me to face how I get seduced by chaos and turmoil. It makes me feel claustrophobic.

“‘Disease’ is about facing that fear, facing myself and my inner darkness, and realising that sometimes I can’t win or escape the parts of myself that scare me. That I can try and run from them, but they are still part of me, and I can run and run, but eventually I’ll meet that part of myself again, even if only for a moment.”

While Gaga has not announced the title of LG7, she revealed to AP Entertainment in September that it will arrive in February 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Chappell Roan has been confirmed as a headliner for the Reading and Leeds festival next year.

Taking place during the bank holiday weekend – 21 to 24 August – the beloved superstar will be joined by other showstopping artists like Hozier, Conan Gray, Bring Me The Horizon, Becky Hill, Pale Waves and Travis Scott.

More music acts will be announced in the coming months.

In a statement, Melvin Benn – the managing organizer for Festival Republic – gushed about Chappell’s inclusion, describing her as “a new pop star poised to define a generation.”

“Right now, we’re witnessing an exciting wave of inspiring voices breaking through in pop culture, and this lineup captures that energy perfectly,” he added. “This is one of the youngest average ages for headliners in years, and that’s very exciting in itself.”

As of writing, Three pre-sales and Festival pre-sales are currently available, while the general sale will kick off on 9 December.

Throughout 2024, Chappell has catapulted to mainstream superstardom following the release of her stand-alone pop anthem, ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ – which was met with acclaim for its unapologetic queerness and themes of compulsory heterosexuality.

Her 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, subsequently began to climb the worldwide charts – hitting number one in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand and number two on the US Billboard 200.

Alongside her chart domination, Chappell’s monumental year consisted of unforgettable performances at several big-name festivals, including Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza, to name a few.

On 8 November, the 26-year-old talent officially became a Grammy-nominated artist after securing six noms at next year’s ceremony – including Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist.

While Chappell has kept her next music era relatively under wraps, she spilt a little tea on what fans can expect during a September interview with Rolling Stone.

“[The next single] needs to have more grit, whether that means more pop grit or rock grit or just bite to the lyrics,” she said.

It’s super weird,” she revealed.

On 2 November, the ‘Naked in Manhattan’ songstress surprised fans when she seemingly debuted her aforementioned country song, ‘The Giver,’ during Saturday Night Live.

Dressed in a stunning Western-inspired ensemble and voluminous hair reminiscent of Dolly Parton, Chappell oozed confidence while singing the track’s cheeky lyrics about expertly pleasing a woman and “getting the job done”.

As of writing, the young talent has yet to release ‘The Giver’ officially.
