Jiggly Caliente, one of the most legendary queens in RuPaul’s Drag Race herstory, has tragically passed away.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Caliente had experienced “a serious health setback” due to a severe infection, during which she was hospitalised and had to undergo the amputation of most of her right leg.

On 27 April, Caliente’s family announced with “profound sorrow” that the drag icon, whose real name was Bianca Castro-Arabejo, had “passed away peacefully” at 4:42 a.m. that same day, “surrounded by her loving family and close friends.” She was 44.

The statement from her family reads: “A luminous presence in the worlds of entertainment and advocacy, Jiggly Caliente was celebrated for her infectious energy, fierce wit, and unwavering authenticity.

“She touched countless lives through her artistry, activism, and the genuine connection she fostered with fans around the world. Her legacy is one of love, courage, and light.

“Though her physical presence is gone, the joy she shared and the space she helped create for so many will remain forever.”

The touching tribute concluded: “She will be deeply missed, always loved, and eternally remembered. In Loving Memory of Bianca Castro-Arebejo (Jiggly Caliente) November 29, 1980 – April 27, 2025.”

News of Caliente’s death was met with shock and sadness from thousands of fans, celebrities and Drag Race stars, such as Cheryl, Courtney Act, Copper Topp, Crystal Envy, Envy Peru, Jaida Essence Hall, Kate Butch, Laganja Estranja, Mariah, Miss Fame, Pangina Heals and Tia Kofi.

Caliente first rose to fame as a breakout star on the fourth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race (2012), winning over fans and judges alike with her lovable, larger-than-life personality. She also delivered one of the franchise’s most unforgettable moments when she lip-synced to Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ in her now-iconic “Baked Potato Couture.”

After coming out as a trans woman in 2016, Caliente made a name for herself as an actress, starring in acclaimed shows like Broad City, Search Party, and Pose, the latter of which she recurred on for 12 episodes as Veronica Ferocity.

In 2021, Caliente made her long-awaited Drag Race return for the sixth season of All Stars. While her stint was short-lived, she later transitioned from contestant to judge on the lauded Filipino spin-off.

Our hearts go out to Jiggly Caliente’s friends and family during this incredibly difficult time.

Former professional rugby player Campbell Johnstone is officially off the market.

On 15 January, the 45-year-old athlete – who made history as the first openly gay All Blacks player – and his partner Ben Thomson announced their marriage in a spread for the New Zealand-based publication Woman’s Day.

The ceremony – which was held at The Flaxmill in Oxford, New Zealand –kicked off with the lovebirds arriving in a helicopter piloted by Johnstone’s rugby peer Richie McCaw.

“Richie did this really steep loop around the property, and I lost my stomach a bit,” Thomson told the publication.

“Then he landed, and we got out. Our parents congratulated us, people swarmed to take photos, then the wedding kind of kicked off from there.”

While most couples say their vows during a ceremony attended by family and friends, Johnstone and Thomson took a private approach to the romantic exchange.

“We had a day with just the two of us, when photographers videoed and photographed us getting ready together in a hotel,” Thomson explained.

“Then we went out to Castle Hill Station and held our ceremony on top of a mountain. It was literally just us, the two photographers and the videographer on that hill… we didn’t even have a celebrant.”

Johnstone added: “We also thought it should be a moment just for us. That was really special because we just got to enjoy the day together.”

Despite keeping their vows private, the lovebirds shared a video of their nuptials during their wedding celebration with family and friends.

“Nobody knew what was going on. Even the groomspeople and our families didn’t know,” Johnstone revealed.

“We meant it to look like we came straight from the video. I think some people thought it was live.”

In addition to discussing the ins and outs of their lavish and unconventional ceremony, their Woman’s Day spread featured an array of heartwarming photos from the special day.

In one snapshot, the pair are holding hands while wearing matching tuxes and a pendant with their first name initials.

Another photo featured the voting station for their new last name, which ended up being Johnstone.

Johnstone and Thomson were also photographed making a champagne tower and perusing through their exquisite table of desserts.

Since opening up about their wedding, fans have flocked to Johnstone’s Instagram to share supportive messages.

One person wrote: “Absolutely stunning! Wishing you all the best and lots of love.

Another fan commented: “LOVE THIS FOR YOU BOTH congratulations.”

Johnstone and Thomson’s wedding comes two years after the former came out as gay – making him the first All Blacks player to do so.

“If I can be the first All Black that comes out as gay and take away the pressure and the stigma surrounding that whole issue, then it can actually help other people,” he told Seven Sharp TV in January 2023.

Congratulations are in order from Campbell Johnstone and Ben Thomson.

GOD SAID NO, Omar Apollo

Tayce has made Strictly Come Dancing herstory.

On 12 November, the Drag Race UK star was announced for the 2024 Christmas Special, becoming the first drag artist to appear as a Strictly contestant in the process.

“I cannot wait to sleigh on the Strictly Ballroom floor. My partner and I are going to dance for our lives!” said Tayce.

“In all seriousness, it’s an incredible honour to be the first Drag artist to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing. I hope I do all of my Drag Race and Welsh fans proud! Sign me up for all the glitz, glam and discoballs.”

The BBC also said in a statement. “Expect festive cheer, jingle bells, mistletoe madness, bedazzling baubles and six celebrities all sleighing their way to Elstree in a bid to be crowned the Strictly Christmas Champion 2024.”

Tayce will be paired with professional dancer Kai Widdrington, who conquered the 2022 Christmas Special. Their song will be ‘A Hundred Degrees’ by Kylie Minogue.

During her appearance on Strictly: It Takes Two, Tayce told host Fleur East that she will “bring the electric, the drama, the je-ne-sais-quoi, the passion and the fashion”, adding: “I’ve honestly got most of the routine down already, so buckle up princess because it’s going to be a bumpy ride!”

The remaining contestants will be announced on Strictly: It Takes Two “in due course”.

Tayce memorably rose to fame as a contestant on the second season of Drag Race UK (2020), where she cemented her status as one of the franchise’s fiercest lip-sync assassins. She ultimately placed runner-up to Lawrence Chaney.

Following her stint on the series, the “Naomi Campbell of Drag” signed with Europe’s largest modelling agency, Models 1, and subsequently walked for brands such as Richard Quinn, The Blonds and EgonLab and modelled for Jean Paul Gaultier.

Since 2021, Tayce has co-hosted the MTV series Queerpiphany, which returns for a fourth season later this month, alongside trans activist Munroe Bergdorf. She has also launched her music career with the acclaimed rap anthem ‘Swagzilla’.

Tayce’s historic participation on Strictly was met with overwhelming praise from Drag Race alumni such as Bimini, Danny Beard, Divina De Campo, Ella Vaday, Envy Peru, Jaida Essence Hall, Kitty Scott-Claus, Kween Kong, Le Fil, Lemon, Michael Marouli, Morphine Love Dion and Tia Kofi.

Drag Race UK judge Michelle Visage referenced her controversial elimination from Strictly‘s 17th season as she joked: “DON’T VOGUE.”

Courtney Act, who placed runner-up on the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars, wrote: “If I wasn’t so jealous I’d be happy for you.”

Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2024 airs Christmas Day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Major spoilers ahead for the sixth episode of Drag Race UK.

For this week’s episode, the eight remaining contestants – Chanel O’Conor, Marmalade, Lill, Rileasa Slaves, Kyran Thrax, Lill, Actavia, and Charra Tea – flexed their best celebrity impersonations for the beloved Snatch Game challenge.

“Now, ladykins, there are certain events that the UK just can’t get enough of. I’m talking about Eurovision, a royal wedding, and, of course, the Snatch Game,” Ru revealed.

“Later today, you’ll play… with our celebrity contestants from S Club, Jon Lee and Rachel Stevens.”

Like seasons past, there was one goal in mind: to make RuPaul laugh – which the majority of the queens achieved during their hilarious performances.

Ultimately, Rileasa and Chanel landed in the bottom, with the latter losing her place in the competition, while La Voix and Kyran won the maxi-challenge.

Read ahead for our ranking of all eight performances, and visit here for our exit interview with Chanel.

8. Rileasa Slaves

For her Snatch Game character, the talented queen chose to do her doppelgänger/ music mogul Rihanna but with a twist. “So this crazy little thing I played a few weeks ago in the rom-coms, I feel like I’m going to bring her back,” she explained in a confessional. “Do Sammy as Rihanna. I’m just gonna roll with it.” While Rileasa slayed the ‘Work’ singer’s look, she struggled to fully blend the two personalities and deliver funny responses.

7. Chanel O’Conor

Chanel O’Conor took on drag icon Miss Coco Peru for the Snatch Game. “Coco is a sadistic, evil woman, and I identify with that,” the Scottish queen told Ru ahead of the challenge. Unfortunately, her portrayal did not stick to the landing. While Chanel nailed Miss Coco’s Bronx, New York accent, her responses were dry and featured little to no comedic elements, which, of course, won’t do in a challenge like the Snatch Game.

6. Marmalade

Marmalade decided to play ‘The Last Queen of France’ Marie Antoinette. “That’s where my humour lies. As an actor, I’m not so much an impersonator, but I create characters,” she said after Ru asked if she could pull off the impersonation. Unsurprisingly, Marmalade slayed her Marie Antoinette look, which was backed by a larger-than-life wig and dramatic makeup. At the same time, her responses could have hit a bit harder in the comedy department.

5. Actavia

Unlike her fellow queens, Actavia opted out of portraying a celebrity and instead decided to take the Snatch Game stage as the Welsh Dragon. “Perspective of going into it is a bit of a ditzy Welsh lady but as a dragon,” she explained. Fortunately, Actavia’s character was a smash for the most part and made RuPaul laugh out loud numerous times. Her unique portrayal also included another hilarious Michael Jackson impression that elevated her performance to new heights.

4. Lill

Like Marmalade, Lill went down the royal figure route, choosing Queen Victoria as her Snatch Game character. “I think she could be quite snooty. I mean, we don’t really know what her voice was like or how she actually was. Let us run with it,” she explained. While she hardly had any references to work with, Lill did not disappoint! From her exclamation of the word “cock” to reminiscing with Ru about their time at one of her Victorian garden parties, the Manchester queen was an absolute delight from start to finish.

3. Charra Tea

Like many queens in the past, Charra came to Drag Race with a handful of Snatch Game ideas, ranging from Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins to Queen Victoria, and, of course, Girls Aloud legend Nadine Coyle. Ultimately, Charra took Ru’s advice and went as “Nadine as Mary Poppins,” which thoroughly worked in her favour. Throughout her performance, the Northern Irish queen expertly blended Nadine and the famous nanny by including the former’s iconic Popstars birthday quote and making ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’ pun about Alan Carr’s fictional stripper name. Charra impressed Ru, the judges’ panel and her fellow queens.

2. La Voix

BBC

Coming in second place is La Voix and her impression of the music legend and gay icon Liza Minnelli. While Drag Race fans have already been treated to hilarious and challenge-winning impersonations of the legendary singer, La Voix successfully made it her own. From calling RuPaul “Ray” to her response about the magic munchkins from The Wizards of Oz, the London-based queen embodied Liza and her notable mannerisms to a T.

1. Kyran Thrax

BBC

In 2022 and 2023, Austin Butler and Jacob Elordi, respectively, made waves for portraying Elvis Presley. However, in our honest opinion, Kyran’s impersonation of the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ blew both their performances out of the water. In addition to nailing Elvis’ voice, mannerisms, and flirtatious nature, the London-based talent’s interactions with Ru and the other queens were creative and extremely amusing.

Visit here for our full interview with this week’s eliminated queen.

Drag Race España star Carmen Farala is interested in participating in an All Winners season.

Back in 2022, the Drag Race fandom was finally treated to All Stars 7 (aka the first ever All Winners season) after years and years of speculation and requests.

The competitors were as follows: Jinkx Monsoon, Monét X Change, Shea Couleé, Raja, Trinity The Tuck, The Vivienne, Yvie Oddly and Jaida Essence Hall.

Throughout the season, the eight fierce queens delivered some of the most iconic moments in Drag Race herstory – including Jinkx’s gut-busting impersonation of Judy Garland, Monét’s breathtaking opera, Shea’s fierce Janet Jackson-inspired number, and Raja’s innovative runways.

Following 11 chaotic weeks of drag excellence, Jinkx was named the franchise’s first ‘Queens of All Queens’.

While RuPaul and World of Wonder have remained tight-lipped on whether a second All Winners season is in the works, a handful of Drag Race champions have already placed their bid to return, including Drag Race España winner Carmen.

During a recent interview on the Disruptivos Podcast, the beloved talent revealed that she would be open to the idea, adding that “great competition” excites her.

“Competing with the best would let the best version out of me,” she exclaimed.

Towards the end of her statement, the ‘Traguito’ singer named Envy Peru (Drag Race Hollad winner), Violet Chachki (Drag Race US winner) and Sasha Velour (Drag Race US winner) as her dream competitors.

Carmen first made waves within the Drag Race fandom after she strutted into the werkroom on Drag Race España‘s inaugural season.

Throughout her run in the competition, the talented performer expertly showcased her charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent through her impeccable runway ensembles and maxi-challenge performances – which resulted in her securing the crown and title of Spain’s Next Drag Superstar.

Carmen isn’t the only Drag Race alum to express an interest in returning for an all winners season.

During a recent interview with PRIDE, All Stars 9 winner Angeria Paris VanMichaels said she “would most definitely” compete for the ‘Queen of All Queens’ title.

“Listen, I love doing Drag Race. I can’t explain it to you more than just saying that it’s my happy place, and I’ve said that for years,” she said.

“I get in that room for those months and I am just being the creative artist that I am, and it feels amazing. Hey, I already got a crown, so it won’t be too stressful this time, honey. I can really have fun, fun. So I would do it in a heartbeat.”

This Drag Race winner has opened up about turning down a spot on Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs the World.

Back in November 2022, fans were treated to the first international spin-off of the popular Canadian-based Drag Race series.

Like the UK vs the World iteration, the show featured nine queens from global editions of the franchise going head to head as they compete to become the second ‘Queen of the Mothertucking World’.

The cast included Anita Wigl’it, Icesis Couture, Kendall Gender, Ra’Jah O’Hara, Rita Baga, Silky Nutmeg Ganache, Stephanie Prince, Vanity Milan, and Victoria Scone.

While all of the competing queens delivered gagworthy drama, emotional moments and sickening runway ensembles, the season almost featured a slightly different lineup.

During a recent appearance on Maddy Morphosis’ YouTube series Give It To Me Straight, Drag Race Holland winner Envy Peru revealed that she turned down an offer to star on Canada vs the Word.

“Well, World of Wonder called me, and they said, ‘We have an offer for you,'” she said.

“We already said no to them, but [they said] ‘We wanted to check with you in case you would be interested.'”

When asked why she turned down the offer, Envy explained that she wanted her next Drag Race appearance to be on a RuPaul-hosted series.

“I said, ‘Well, if I’m going to go back on Drag Race or whatever season, I want to do it in front of RuPaul, and that’s nothing against Brooke Lynn Hytes. I love Brooke Lynn Heights but I’ve never been in front of RuPaul,” she continued.

“I want to present my drag in front of Mother Ru. Now I understand why they wanted me to be in that season because of Icesis Couture. They wanted to have two winners against each other. No, that wasn’t the right moment for me.”

While the beloved queen turned down the inaugural season of Canada vs the World, she did express an interest in starring in another Drag Race spin-off in the future.

“When the time is right, then I would be very interested to go back but I need to feel secure about it,” she concluded.

Envy first made waves within the Drag Race fandom when she competed in the first season of Drag Race Holland.

After eight weeks of stomping the runway and winning four out of eight maxi-challenges, the talented performer made history as the first ever crowned contestant of the Dutch iteration and the first Peruvian queen in the franchise to emerge supreme.
