W South Beach is a lavish and incredibly chic hotel that should be on every gay traveller’s radar.

WORDS BY GAY TIMES

From the moment you step into the W’s high-ceilinged lobby, you know you’ve arrived somewhere special. This isn’t just another beachfront hotel in Miami – it’s more of an artistic haven; the sort of glam mansion a legacy Hollywood star may flock to for the summer. There’s even art from the likes of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat on the walls, as we said, special.

We shouldn’t gloss over the idea of ‘another beachfront hotel’ – this is by itself a very lavish and incredibly chic bit of real estate to temporarily call home; but again the W hotel manages to offer something beyond the ordinary. Here, *every* room boasts an ocean view, and has floor to ceiling windows to make sure the view is as panoramic as can be.

Waking up to that shimmering blue horizon never gets old. If that wasn’t enough of a sunkissed shine added to the holiday, you can take the view in while sitting on your private balconies, of course. Floridian orange juice is prized, you know this, but tasting it every morning on that balcony. Oh reader, it hits different.

The W hotel interiors are always special

Miami’s golden hour energy and glossy sophistication is considered within the interior, making this a prime of example of how ‘bringing the outside in’ can be so wonderful. The interiors lean into a chic, cosmopolitan aesthetic – think dark wood floors, plush king-sized beds, and sleek marble bathrooms with rainfall showers and Bliss Spa amenities. Opt for a suite and you’ll enjoy even more indulgence, from sprawling living spaces to your very own outdoor plunge pool.

W hotel is literally on Miami beach – you step outside and, given the hotel is located on Collins Avenue, you’re greeted by a tropical oasis of palm trees with the natural sand and sea scent behind them. You’ll also find a sprawling pool-side deck designed for both relaxation and socialising. Just beyond this, you have all the delights of Miami waiting for you.

Fabulous, but what are the LGBTQ+ things to experience in Miami?

Miami’s LGBTQ+ scene is electric, and guests at the W South Beach are perfectly positioned to experience it all. Just a short stroll away, you’ll find iconic nightlife spots like Twist, a legendary multilevel gay club, and Palace Bar, famed for its outrageous drag brunches. If you’re in town during Miami Beach Pride, the city transforms into a non-stop celebration of queer culture, with parades, parties, and performances spilling onto every corner. Art lovers should look to head out to Miami for the OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival, a revered festival which showcases powerful queer storytelling. For those looking to experience a chill and queer Miami at any time of the year should visit Hôtel Gaythering, a boutique hotel and gay bar known for its trivia nights and social events. Whatever your vibe, Miami goes far beyond the beach, and makes leaving such glorious accommodation not too frightening at all.

Okay, and general Miami nightlife? Where should I go?

Honestly, you don’t even need to leave the hotel to experience some of the city’s best dining. MR CHOW is a must, delivering high-energy Beijing buisine with a side of theatre (and some seriously good hand-pulled noodles) it’s the sort of spot even locals will come and enjoy. For something more casual yet equally delicious, The Restaurant at W South Beach (that’s its name) serves a menu created with the local coast in mind: authentic ceviche and grilled seafood, with bespoke cocktails that pair just perfectly. Over at the Living Room bar, the scene is a chic, low-lit affair, perfect for pre-game cocktails or winding down with a negroni nightcap.

For LGBTQ+ travellers looking to experience Miami in all its glittering, sun-drenched glory, the W South Beach is a no-brainer. It’s stylish without being pretentious, energetic without being chaotic, and luxurious while still feeling like a place that lets you properly unwind. Whether you’re mingling at the pool, dancing into the early hours, or simply soaking in the South Beach scenery, this is a place where unforgettable moments are made.

And yes, don’t worry, W Hotels has long been a champion of inclusivity, making it a safe and stylish haven for LGBTQ+ travellers. From its hiring policies to its partnerships with LGBTQ+ organisations, this is a hotel where guests can feel completely at ease. Whether you’re travelling solo, with a partner, or as part of a larger queer entourage, you’ll find a space where you can fully be yourself, surrounded by a like-minded and vibrant community.

Anything else the hotel has to offer?

We’ve barely touched the surface, following a $30 million upgrade in 2020 the hotel has become one of the most decked out places like… anywhere. The AWAY Spa is almost 10,000 square feet; there’s rooftop basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts (the only ones in the area), and even a ballroom. This is in addition to various social activities hosted by the hotel, from cigar tastings to yoga, they cater to every desire.

Best For:

LGBTQ+ jet-setters, beach lovers, and those who like their luxury with a side of high-energy fun.

Rooms start from around $600 per night. Visit wsouthbeach.com for more information

From its prime location to its perfect blend of industrial design and homely comfort, the Gansevoort hotel in New York City must be on your radar.

WORDS BY GAY TIMES

Few places have a history like Manhattan’s Meatpacking District: a westside area that’s been home to some of New York’s most raucous debauchery, history, and glamour. From industrial hub to squatter central to the edge and heart of all things artistic in the big apple, no place is quite like it. Sex clubs, art museums, slaughterhouses, and Alexander McQueen stores have all called the place home. And all mere minutes away from the old money West Village!

Cool, so what’s in the area today?

The Gansevoort, named after the southernmost point of the district, is perfectly situated for those who want to explore the best of New York City. Literal steps away from urban park the High Line, there’s few better ways to ease yourself into the city that never sleeps. Beyond that, but still local, is The Whitney Museum of American Art, a host of high end retail, and of course there’s the cobbled roads and old-industrial architecture that act as the architectural soul of the place.

Okay, so why stay at the Gansevoort?

As well as the prime location, the Gansevoort Meatpacking is a perfect blend of industrial design and homely comfort. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light while offering stunning views of the Hudson River or the Manhattan skyline, in the rooms, dark wooden panels and large steel beams offer that irresistible combination of natural softness and human energy.

Luxury is guaranteed of course, the beds will have you thinking it’s impossible to not sleep in this city, while the bathrooms feature rainfall showers and high-end bath amenities that save you packing yours. Should you decide to opt for a suite, you’ll enjoy additional space with stylish lounge areas, oversized soaking tubs, and private terraces which make for a perfect private place to unwind from the city, should you want it.

Facilities are bountiful also – the gyms are so equipped they have innovative exercise mirror technology from Lululemon. The rooftop bar is popular with guests and locals alike, on-site restaurants including Le Coin and the rooftop Omakase restaurant Saishin, are routinely booked out. There’s even a private member’s club concept, Seven24 Collective, on-site, making the hotel a genuine part of the city, somewhere that forms relationships and not just fleeting visits.

Amazing! Is The Gansevoort Meatpacking queer friendly?

Of course! The space has been a mainstay for LGBTQ+ travellers looking for a chic and welcoming place in New York City. With its prime location in one of Manhattan’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, the hotel offers an atmosphere of inclusivity and sophistication. The staff is effortlessly welcoming, ensuring that every guest feels at home, while the hotel’s collaborations with LGBTQ+ organisations further solidify its commitment to the community. Whether you’re here for Pride, a weekend escape, or just to immerse yourself in the city’s electrifying energy, the Gansevoort is an ideal base.

And obviously New York City is a good place for queer people to visit?

New York City’s LGBTQ+ scene is incredibly diverse, and staying at the Gansevoort puts you right in the heart of some of the most unique queer experiences the city has to offer. While the West Village is well-known for its history, dive a little deeper and you’ll find hidden gems that go beyond the usual landmarks. If you’re after an intimate cabaret experience, check out The Duplex, a legendary piano bar with nightly performances by rising Broadway stars and drag artists.

For something a little more underground, wander into The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, dedicated exclusively to queer art and culture, featuring exhibits that push the boundaries of LGBTQ+ storytelling. Love literature? Stop by the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division, an independent queer bookstore inside the LGBT Center, where you can catch poetry readings, book launches, and thought-provoking discussions. If your visit coincides with one of the lesser-known queer events, like the annual Dyke March or the Inferno gay square dance nights, you’ll get a rare glimpse into the city’s thriving LGBTQ+ subcultures. As you may expect, NYC really has it all.

Best for:

Architectural queers; emerging culture fiends; a flat white in nature the morning after the poppers…

Book It:

Rooms start from around $450 per night. Visit gansevoorthotelgroup.com for more information.

From its luxurious spa services to its stunning Swiss Alps location, here’s everything you need to know about W Verbier.

WORDS BY GAY TIMES

W Verbier refers to itself as an alpine paradise, and the accolades (world’s best ski hotel eight years running, making the top 100 Hotels & Resorts of the World 2023 list among others) support this description well. But truly, if there’s a phrase we’d call synonymous to the W brand, it’s wow

W Hotels can be found throughout the globe, from Abu Dhabi to Taipei, London to Los Angeles but fitting this luxury resort into the Swiss Alps seemed extraordinarily ambitious. We were skeptical: a hotel brand that is associated with dark, moody colours, expansive facilities and trendy nightlife all within an Alpine chalet?

Of course, we didn’t need to fear. W’s first-ever alpine-based resort works wonderfully. Verbier is a Swiss Mountain Resort two hours drive from Geneva. Long associated with the rich and famous, supercars and luxury boutiques line the winding village roads naturally, the landscape is a snowglobe in a department store, only better, because it’s real. You can touch it, smell it, and most importantly, ski down it. W Hotels figured, you should be able to luxuriously stay there too. And so, W Verbier was born.

How to get to W Verbier

Travelling to the resort from Geneva airport can be done a few ways. We decided to skip the car hire and book the train, which is affordable, eco-conscious, and convenient. The Intercity platforms are just minutes from the airport exit, and head close to Verbier’s base.

Via train, this route has the additional benefit of beautiful scenery, running alongside the majority of Lake Geneva (there are far too many stunning moments to capture), and then up toward the mountains. Of course, being on a train, you can access this in comfort, not having to check rear view mirrors the whole time and as with most countries in Europe, the public transport is exceptionally reliable. After just a few hours, a small Mountain train hikes up the hillside towards Le Chalet, and the gondola to Verbier, where the holiday officially begins.

W Verbier at a glance

The first glimpse of the hotel can be seen from the gondola – a spectacular rotating W glistening against the sun, with the chalets of the hotel dotted around it. If there’s a more glam way to arrive at a hotel, we’re not sure we’ve experienced it!

Once checked in, the experience only gets better. W Verbier is designed to fuse sleek modernity with warm alpine charm. The effect is a retreat which exudes a welcoming yet ultra-luxe energy: crackling fireplaces, low-lit lounges, and deep leather seating make sure you feel as warm as a post-ski cocoa, while the floor-to-ceiling windows offer dramatic views of the snowy peaks beyond.

The theme continues in the bedroom, wooden walls and exposed beams are complemented by bold accent furniture, plush bedding, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead out to private balconies. The bathrooms feature deep soaking tubs and rainfall showers which make the wind down from a day of adventure and into après-ski all the more seamless.

… and speaking of après-ski, W Verbier delivers it like no other. Whether you’re in the mood for a chic calm cocktail or a vibrant party, you’ll find what you are looking for. W Off Piste is for those looking to enjoy drinks while wrapped up warm as DJs spin against a backdrop of snow-dusted mountains. For something more intimate, W Living Room offers a cosy and glamorous space for handcrafted cocktails, fine wines, and an expertly curated selection of Swiss cheese and charcuterie. Verbier also hosts Snow Pride, which makes the place very attuned to queer needs, and provides an ideal time to visit annually – W Hotels has long been a champion of inclusivity, making it a safe and stylish haven for LGBTQ+ travellers.

The facilities at W Verbier are extensive

The spa is, in a word, extensive, offering luxurious treatment rooms, top-tier therapists, and a menu that spans everything from deep tissue massages to Swiss-inspired detox treatments – all the treatments you can dream of while tackling a challenging black slope are here. There’s also three different saunas, ample steam rooms, jacuzzis and two pools, including a connecting outdoor pool, which is a must. Sitting in there, feeling the cold on our face and the warmth on our body, steam rising up into the mountains, snow lightly melting on the surface; it’s nothing short of magical.

There is enough to do at W Verbier even if you don’t ski or snowboard, but for those who do, there’s direct access to over 400 km of prime slopes, catering to all skill levels and including off piste routes. For those who want something between chill and adventure, try a scenic snowshoeing trail (they happen to meander past wonderful restaurants and bars, it’s a holiday remember).

W Verbier is essentially the beautiful epicenter of a magical and glamorous destination. Sure, you can visit and ski, board, shop, party, eat, and relax without even stepping inside the hotel – but if you want to make the most of the destination, stay in beautifully designed cabins which blend into the environment, have slopes and spas both at your doorstep, and generally feel like some sort of supervillain living it up mountain side, there’s nowhere better to call base.

Best For:
LGBTQ+ alpine adventurers, frosted spa lovers, and those who enjoy luxury as much as they do adrenaline

Rooms start from £661 per night. Click here for more information.

Interview with Dr Guy Sandelowsky, recently seen on Drag’s Den, Vet and Co-Founder at Omni, a UK start-up selling allergy friendly pet food and supplements.

Why do dogs make us feel ‘whole’?

In short, because dogs offer us a unique unconditional love and loyalty that can be hard to find elsewhere!

Many straight people will tell you that their kids give them a sense of purpose and fulfilment beyond what they could dream to get through their career or material things. For me, dogs offer a similar value, and although starting a family is possible for LGBTQIA+ people, it’s also not always that straight forward. Having a dog, however, can be.

Being a closet gay kid at a London all boys school in the 90’s and early 2000’s was lonely. The gay dating scene in London is lonely also. You meet someone, and unless you’re one of the lucky few, you’ll likely spend many years trying to find your forever person, without success. That’s not to say you can’t be happy, I’ve had some of the best years of my life when I’m single or in short term relationships but there’s something we’re missing until we bring a dog into our lives!

Dogs come with huge responsibility of course; the walks, feeding, not being left alone for too long, vet visits etc. but I think this sacrifice is what makes the experience of having a dog all the more fulfilling. We give them our time, energy, love and resources and in return, we literally get the most loyal, loving companion we could dream of, a true best pal! Like many things in life, the work we put in makes us feel all the more happy when it pays off and the fruits of our labour are realised.

To spell it out further, if you have a dog they are always there. Your good days, your not so good days and everything in between. Whatever life throws at you, they will be by your side, looking supportively into your eyes, reassuring you every step of the way. For me, this consistent unconditional love is unmatched to any other relationship I have experienced and is why I believe having a dog makes your life whole.

I do recognise that family and friends can be an amazing and wholesome part of our lives too but its different, they have their own lives to worry about – for your dog, you are their world, and in time they become your world too. A truly amazing bond that releases serotonin, oxytocin and dopamine (happy hormones) in our brains, on repeat!

What impact did your own dog have on you?

My black Labrador Bondie lived to 17 and truly was my best mate.

I’m not going to lie, I did find owning a dog somewhat challenging with all the rest of life’s demands like training at vet school, working and then later my MBA but my Gd was he worth it.

Bondie was the sweetest dog, playful yet so in tune with the emotions of the humans around him. He just seemed to understand the mood in the room, and knew how best to console, uplift and celebrate the moments of life.

When he was younger he was a bit of a handful on walks. He would literally drag whoever was walking him to any whiff of food (kids would often leave chicken wings chucked on the floor in our local park). Although that was funny at first, it actually became a bit of a hazard, not just for him (bones can really tear up their intestines) but also whoever was walking him. He was a strong boy and could literally topple someone over as they tried to hold on to his lead.

As he matured and grew out of these behaviours, I felt how I imagine a parent might feel when their naughty teenager grows up and stops acting out. A profound sense of fulfilment and pride, thats my dog, look how well behaved and perfect he is, a truly amazing feeling.

What about cats?

Cats too! This wholesome feeling pets bring us is definitely not limited to dogs. I mention dogs because that’s the experience I have had, but I know from friends and colleagues that other animals can give us a similar feeling, including cats!

The key thing is the bidirectional relationship. We give the pet (whatever animal they are) our energy, time and love and in return they give us affection, companionship and loyalty. These may be expressed in different ways by other species like cats, but its this 2-way flow that counts

This is also why I don’t think certain ‘more independent’ pets like hamsters and goldfish necessarily can bring the same fulfilment, though of course they offer their own positive value for many too.

What was it like being on Dragon’s Den?

So much fun! I’ve watched the show since I was a kid and have got to know dragons like Deborah Meeden and Steven Bartlett via the screen over the years. I’ve always admired them so being in front of them, in real life, pitching my business, was wild.

I became a vet because I wanted to dedicate my career to helping people enjoy the pet-human bond for as long as possible. Being on the show was important in that regard, because it gave my business exposure, enabling lots of households to discover Omni and start to use our products to help their dogs.

That said, we definitely had some awkward moments like when Peter Jones tried to open our calming dog treats and couldn’t get into the packet! I was also in the middle of telling the dragons how healthy our food was when the dog we brought on set ate the bowl of Omni food too quickly and brought it right back up! In the end though, it was all part of the fun and I wouldn’t have swapped the experience for anything, no regrets!

Why did you start your own business selling food and supplements?

As vets I think we’re great at treating diseases in pets but not necessarily as good at preventing them. After many years working on the front line in various pet hospitals I realised that there’s a huge segment of pets underserved by current offerings. Namely the 10-20% who suffer from food sensitivities and allergies and who are either on long term strong medications to manage their symptoms or suffering chronically with itchy skin, ears and ‘runny’ toilets. Many are forced to eat bland, expensive or ineffective ‘hypoallergenic’ offerings on the market.

I realised there was an opportunity to build a whole business around products that served these pets better and Omni was born.

Our main differentiator is that we use novel proteins derived from yeasts, algae and pulses in our food, treats and supplements. By doing so, we’re able to replace allergy triggering ingredients like chicken, beef, dairy and by covering all the sorts of products pets eat, we ensure pet owners can get everything they need in one place.

The result is dogs that live happier lives, requiring fewer lifetime medications and their weight is better managed too.

In addition, because all our products are free of animal ingredients, they are also kinder to the planet in terms of reduced CO2 emissions, land and water use.

Most importantly, they taste amazing, we try all our products ourselves to make sure they are above bar before any pets get them! Many dogs will actually choose our products over the traditional meat based offerings, so no compromise on flavour.

Can you give us three top dog health tips?

Keep up to date with your dogs yearly vaccinations, there has sadly been a resurgence in certain very serious diseases as people shy away from vaccinating their pets. I’ve seen first hand how heart breaking it is losing a pet too soon due to a disease that could have been prevented with vaccination.

Start dental care early. As dogs age, many will require dental work, under general anaesthetic, to keep their teeth and gums clean and healthy. This comes with costs and some anaesthetic risks so I’m a firm believer in preventative oral care to help reduce the need for this, including regular tooth brushing and the use of other teeth and gum pet cleaning products from a young age.

Get health insurance. If you can afford it, try to take out health insurance for your pet. A little set aside monthly now can literally be a life saver later, when your beloved pets needs specialist care.

Boudica Music Conference returns for its fourth edition on 24th January, hosting a day and night dedicated
to exchanging knowledge to empower Female, Trans+ and Non-Binary people within music, in an accessible
and safer environment at FOLD, London.

Boudica has curated a terrific lineup of industry professionals such as Juliana Huxtable, Nadine Noor (PXSSY PALACE), Jaguar (BBC Radio 1), Eden Topall-Rabanes (Riposte / HOWL), Charisse C, Charles Green (Omni Artists), Katherine Cantwell (Heavenly Recordings), Hannah Shogbola (United Talent, Daju) and many more to share their knowledge, experience and advice to those interested in pursuing a career in music.

Following the daytime conference, Boudica at night sees Juliana Huxtable, Lolsnake, Samantha Togni, Teecra and the winner of Boudica’s DJ Mentorship, Boo, takeover the FOLD sound system until late.

In 2023, they initiated an ongoing, collaborative relationship with Pioneer DJ / AlphaTheta’s Start From Scratch series to support LGBTQIA+ communities across Europe. So far, they have held workshops, educational panels and events in Bologna, Cologne, Prague, Tallinn and more.

Boudica’s enduring mission is to inspire, develop and nurture talented artists who typically lack the necessary
resources to flourish, offering gender minorities in music the tools to do so.

Art Bologna (MAMbo), and FOLD in London. On 24th January 2025, they return to the epicentre of London’s

Boudica Music Conference strives to encourage more Trans+, Female and Non-Binary individuals to become involved in the music industry. Boudica has curated a terrific lineup of industry professionals such as Juliana Huxtable, Eden Topall-Rabanes (Riposte / HOWL), Jaguar (BBC Radio 1), Charisse C and many more to share their knowledge, experience and advice to to those interested in pursuing a career in music.

Boudica Music Conference is financially accessible. It is free for students, low-income and unemployed people, and operates a Pay What You Can system from £10-£15. The DJ workshops are free.

Here’s why the all-inclusive Hyde Bodrum needs to be on your travel radar.

WORDS BY GAY TIMES

All-inclusive has gone luxury. Hotel giants Ennismore and Accor jump on the growing trend of upmarket all-in stays – we travel to Bodrum to try out their new “boho-chic” brand – Hyde.

Bodrum is a destination that has experienced rapid growth in recent years. From Hollywood celebrities to European holidaymakers, it seems everyone is descending on the Aegean Sea for guaranteed sun and relaxation.

It’s not too surprising then that Accor has chosen the Turkish resort as its first all-inclusive destination for Hyde Hotels.

Whatever your preconceived notions of All-Inclusive are – it’s time to throw them out the window. This is all-inclusive, done right.

Arrival

One of the best features of Hyde Bodrum is its proximity to Milas-Bodrum International Airport. With resorts in the area sometimes an hour away, the quick 25-minute drive after a short or long-haul flight feels remarkably easy. Better yet, the airport is still small enough that immigration and baggage reclaim resemble more a small holiday port than an international hub.

Passing the various resorts on the coastal road, we quickly arrive at the new Hyde Bodrum gates, which opened in May 2024 to guests for the first time.

Check-in is a breeze and takes place in the lounge area, with ‘Sun and Moon’, a coffee and patisserie shop adjacent. Serra, a guest relations manager, looked after us and we were off to our room within a few minutes.

The hotel offers golf carts, mostly to escape the extreme sun in the Turkish Riviera. This resort is small, and delightfully so. Four separate accommodation buildings surround the expansive pools and decks.

Rooms

We’re staying in a Platinum One-Bedroom Suite, but all accommodations are spacious, well-appointed, and feature floor-to-ceiling windows.

The vibe, in their own words, is “boho-chic” – what does that mean? We’re not really sure either, but expect wooden floors and furniture, muted tones and blues that reflect the nearby Aegean Sea.

The beds are super comfortable, and the rooms are well sound-proofed. The only watch-out is the bathrooms, which, while nice, feature that same internal dividing you’d more associate with your nearby swimming pool or leisure centre than a luxury hotel.

Pools and Decks

The big selling point of this property is the vast swimming pools that connect the buildings. Some rooms even feature private swim-up pools at ground level. If you opt for a regular room, fear not, nobody is waking at the crack of dawn to put towels on sun-beds here.

There are so many sun-beds and cabanas, all with personal shade, that you are never going to need to fight with your fellow guests for space. We often found enough that you could easily take a couple to yourself for extra room.

Dining and Bars

Now – here’s the dealmaker – all-inclusive comes with a fairly muddy reputation of low-quality food, plate-filling diners and excess for the sake of excess. We were relieved to see none of those features at Hyde Bodrum.

The hotel boasts five different dining options, all of which have unique features and benefits. Here’s the breakdown;

Palms

Let’s start with – to our delight – the only buffet on-site. Greater Palms is probably the closest you’ll get to what you imagine All-Inclusive to be – with a few twists.

The buffet restaurant is huge, and tables are in plentiful supply. This is the only place you can have breakfast and is also open for lunch and dinner.

The unique approach Hyde has taken, along with its focus on freshly prepared food, is that options are often made to order. Although you’ll be circulating a large area with numerous options, there are chefs at every station preparing your food to order, endorsing the restaurant’s promise of fresh food – and the food really is.

This means food tastes great and you can customise to your heart’s content. Traditional Turkish options are always available, along with Mediterranean-style cuisine.

Hyde Beach

Our favourite spot in the resort has to be Hyde Beach. Perched on the side of the rocky beachfront with stunning views of the Aegean Sea. This is your first taste of how different Hyde approaches its all-inclusive offering – entirely a-la-carte.

The menus are limited, but we love that. Having a huge array of options often serves to decrease the quality. Hyde Beach has a good range of options within its limited menu, and the staff is plentiful and attentive. We can highly recommend the poke bowl.

La Rebelle

We were so impressed by La Rebelle. The menu is limited and this adds to it feeling more refined and sets it apart as everything is a la carte. A culinary delight indeed.

Check Out

A special mention has to go out to the Guest Relations Team, who provided a late check out due to our late flight departure from Bodrum and dealt with this with flexibility and positivity. A common theme during our stay.

Bookings are now open for Hyde Bodrum with limited time starting promotional rates only to be found at www.hydehotels.com/bodrum.

Hyde Bodrum is part of the ALL Inclusive Collection, the popular digital platform that allows guests to discover a highly curated selection of all-inclusive resorts in some of the world’s most exciting destinations.

ALL Inclusive Collection brings together over 35 breathtaking resorts, challenging the historical perception of all-inclusive holidays by creating memorable luxury experiences with exceptional and varied culinary offers and high-quality entertainment.

order+chaos, a new independent culture communications and events agency, headed by leading creative entrepreneur and former GT SVP Global Activations Josh Fletcher, has launched today in the UK.

Embracing an approach that masterfully blends structure with spontaneity and tradition with innovation, the agency uses a unique response framework grounded in human behaviour theory to interrogate each brief. This enables brands to connect with their audiences in ways that feel both familiar and surprising, reflecting the rhythm of everyday life. order+chaos will offer a full suite of integrated services and is set to redefine how brands approach creativity in an unpredictable world.

WIth more than a decade driving innovation in the creative industry – and experience leading campaigns with major, renowned brands such as Coca-Cola, Calvin Klein and Reebok, Fletcher is the creative visionary behind the agency.

“order+chaos is more than a name – it’s our approach,” Fletcher explains. “We’ve seen that the most compelling campaigns and experiences arise from a delicate balance of predictability and surprise and in an industry prone to routine, this provocation will help us break the mould to create work that people remember. We use the term ‘chaos’ as a way to push boundaries and unlock potential, but it’s always paired with ‘order’, ensuring every idea is grounded in strategic thinking.”

order+chaos is built from an understanding of how people connect with brands and experiences in an ever-changing, fast-paced world. “Our unique approach helps brands tap into the cultural zeitgeist, mirroring the rhythm of life – a blend of familiar patterns and unexpected surprises. It’s about meeting audiences where they are, while still surprising and delighting them.”

As brands navigate increasingly complex environments, the agency believes adaptability and agility are key to success. Fletcher adds, “The world is more unpredictable than ever. Your 6-month, 12-month, 3-year plans are no longer set in stone. Being aware of this from the outset allows us to see opportunities where others see challenges.”

Inclusivity and social impact are also central to the agency’s mission, and Fletcher, from a working class background himself, is passionate about creating opportunities for underrepresented talent. A key initiative in the agency’s development is the youth platform ‘Chaos to Kindness,’ which will offer mentorship and workshops to young creatives, helping them navigate the industry while developing their skills and networks. Fletcher emphasises. “It’s not just about giving underrepresented talent a seat at the table – it’s about ensuring they thrive once they’re there.”

Equally important to the agency’s ethos is building an environment where creative teams and unconventional thinkers can thrive. “I know the exciting stuff is born where support meets empowerment,” Fletcher states. “By encouraging both independent thinking and collaborative efforts, we ensure every team member feels encouraged to innovate while prioritising their well-being.”

EXCERPT AND SPREADS FROM AFM
WITH THANKS TO FEELD

A new addition to the landscape of literature – enter Issue 001 of AFM, Feeld’s new print magazine edited by Maria Dimitrova and Haley Mlotek, which launches today.

Below, we publish an exclusive excerpt.

Otherness Archive is an open-access online library gathering moving image works by and for the transmasculine community. It was founded by Sweatmother, a self taught archivist and filmmaker based in London. Here, he presents a collection of film stills from their catalog, along with an essay by Ellis Jackson Kroese.

I’ve always felt uneasy with the terms archive/archiving/archivist, probably in a similar way to how I reacted against “lesbian” in high school—not me! I’m not qualified! No certification! Lesbianism felt scary and certain, a gold star required on the resumé. I didn’t want to take the test, so I didn’t apply.

Of course, I ended up a lesbian anyway, the way we often do. The unofficial route—you blink and find yourself in Manchester with your partner of 7 years in matching Birkenstocks and you realise it happened, you’re here, you’re it. No papers necessary.

I became an archivist in a similar way. I dropped history lessons as soon as I could. Essays bored me, and I’d much rather make ceramics in the back of the art room. Years later, during my Fine Arts degree, I played with found images from queer ephemera. I called this a “research-based practice,” but at the time I never considered it a historical practice. I collected pop-cultural and historical images of queer and trans masculinity. I started an Instagram page called Trans Masc Studies to share these images, which grew slowly, and then quickly. The unofficial route again – I blinked and I was being called an archivist.

Over time, I grew into the title. I began to understand the power of the unofficial archive as a place of experimentation, exploration, and joy; that an unofficial archive can create a playground for research and representation that lives outside the institutionalised limitations of traditional cataloging and binary systems.

Queer history has long been sidelined by institutions, the keepers of the official histories; homophobic and transphobic societies have preserved cishet history while marginalising the queer. This is partially true of the heteronormative lens of straight historians, who have long repositioned lovers as “close friends,” minimised the role of crossdressing within someone’s identity, and diminished wholesale the obvious queer cues that characterised so many lives.

Another cause for the repression of transgender history is society’s need to control the gender binary. If the public believes that gender variance didn’t exist throughout history, transgender identities must be understood as something new, a fad, a phase. Cisgender heterosexuality is made to seem ubiquitous by biased
historical records that repress the truth—a full range of sexualities and gender identities have existed for all of human history. Compounding this issue is white supremacy’s erasure of Indigenous cultures, and with them the many gendered possibilities that existed within Indigenous communities. These factors, and many more, united to create an archival space for the ruling white cishet majority, and not for the marginalised.

Recently, however, many major museums have scrambled to make up for their centuries of oppression and silencing — rewriting biographies to include the queerness they previously erased, publicly lamenting those missing from the archive, and proudly displaying the few objects with queer provenance that they could find in the vaults.

To me, it rarely feels enough. It often feels too reactionary, too forced. It is not our own. When museums have been a space of oppression and reduction, we must create an expansive safe space to write our own history. We must create our own canon, our own vaults.

“Sometimes archiving is studied and sometimes it evolves organically, informally”

Sometimes archiving is studied and sometimes it evolves organically, informally. In this space of possibility, other archives are created; the archives that develop in the dark, the archivists that learn as they go. The messy archives with the cheap gloves, the digital archives with the shitty organisational system. The archives that were birthed from nothingness by somebody, anybody, who found something worth remembering. People who get swallowed by research wormholes and end up somewhere they never expected. People who created something and stored it away.

Garages are filled with queer erotica, dropboxes created to store and share scans of ephemera, screenings curated to show the unseen. These types of archives are created by artists, by collectors, by organizers, by anyone. It is a lawless land, in which collections develop outside of institutions, purely for the sake of documenting and gathering.

It is this type of grassroots archiving that is explored by Otherness Archive, an open-access, online library gathering and moving image works “by and for,” the transmasculine community. Here, anyone with an internet connection and some free time can explore transgender arts and culture. The archive was founded by Sweatmother in January 2023, and was created in partnership with a small group of trans researchers and archive builders.

Since then, it has become a living, ever-evolving organism with submissions and suggestions from the community regularly updating the collection. Approximately 500 films are currently available through the archive. It holds experimental arthouse videos, filmed speeches by famous activists, erotica, indie documentaries, home movies. It holds our community, our history, our siblings, our transcestors.

To describe such collections as archives can be controversial; to describe one-self as an archivist without the proper accreditation might seem hubristic. And yet it empowers those who collect, those who donate, those who care about the complex and marginal truth. It allows limits to be pushed in a way that perhaps government or cultural institutions wouldn’t fund. It allows freedom from those in power, who have a stake in our binary heteronormative system.

Self-made archives are created to represent ourselves authentically—to give parts of our community to future generations. They are created to understand ourselves as individuals amongst a whole; to reflect on what it means to be, to live, to hurt, to want, to be alone, to be together. They are created to give gravitas, they are created to give context, they are created to give joy. They are created to give perspective, silliness, community, inspiration, love, love, love.

They are ours.

We recently published our Walt Disney World review, shining light to how the magical Orlando resort is a hotspot for friend-group travel. Now you’re up to date on the latest travel trends, let’s dive into exactly what is making Walt Disney World the continued vacation capital of the world.

Here’s our must-see attractions and experiences at Walt Disney World for 2025 and beyond.

WORDS BY GAY TIMES

One of the joys of returning to Disney World is the excitement of new and refreshed attractions.  Here’s GT’s 6 favourites:

1. TRON Lightcycle Run (Magic Kingdom): This cutting-edge roller coaster immerses you in the neon-lit digital world of TRON, where you board sleek, high-speed Lightcycles to race across a futuristic grid. The visually stunning experience celebrates the feeling of breaking boundaries—perfect for thrill-seekers who love futuristic escapism and cinematic visuals.

TRON Lightcycle Run originally debuted at Shanghai Disney Resort in China. The coaster made its way over to the United States recently and has fast become a fan-favourite.

GT Top Tip: Make sure you book a lightning lane slot at this attraction. Wait times in the standby boarding groups can be long. Lightning Lane slots go quickly but mean you are riding in minutes, not hours!

2. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (Epcot): Join the Guardians on this revolutionary indoor roller coaster that combines humor, heart, and high-speed twists through space. For  fans, the intergalactic adventure offers an inviting escape, embracing themes of chosen family and heroic camaraderie with the quirky, lovable Guardians cast.

This ride is out of this world. The attraction features a special ride system (which we won’t spoil) that is genuinely hair-raising. Disney has done it again with this new attraction

GT Top Tip: This ride has special elements that change each time you ride, so make sure you make time for a few go’s!

3. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (Epcot): This whimsical, family-friendly attraction shrinks you down to the size of Remy, whisking you through Gusteau’s bustling kitchen in a delightful blend of sights, sounds, and smells. Perfect for chosen families, friends, and allies alike, this ride is all about celebrating differences and savoring life’s little moments.

This attraction is a newer attraction that has earned its space in the cannon of Walt Disney World classics. It’s a must-ride for any Walt Disney World trip.

GT Top Tip: Head to Remy in the evening for shorter wait times, especially while the fireworks are on.

4. Moana’s Journey of Water (Epcot): This new attraction invites guests into a lush, water-themed world inspired by Moana’s connection to nature. Emphasizing community, resilience, and the importance of balance, it’s an experience for LGBTQ+ visitors and allies alike who find comfort and inspiration in Moana’s message of strength and harmony.

This new attraction is a ‘walk-thru’ – meaning there’s no ride system to jump on. This means you can experience the attraction in your own time.

GT Top Tip: Head to Moana when the park is busy and hot. It’s a great, leafy space to cool down and get away from the crowds.

5. Epcot’s New World Celebration (Epcot): Epcot’s transformation introduces new green spaces and interactive exhibits, embracing community and diversity. This space promises inclusive, innovative activities and a welcoming environment, creating a sense of togetherness in a reimagined landscape.

Epcot’s had a makeover – the new entrance sings (literally), lighting up the parks icon Spaceship Earth with colour, music and light.

GT Top Tip: Experience this new lush area and the night-time mini shows at dusk for the best vacation photos.

6. Fantasmic! (Hollywood Studios): This beloved nighttime spectacular has returned, now revamped with stunning updates that bring Disney’s classic stories to life through lights, lasers, and projection technology. A show where every Disney fan can feel like a hero, Fantasmic! welcomes guests from every background to experience magic and storytelling in a shared, jubilant celebration.

Fantasmic never gets old. The show at Disney Hollywood Studios plays to epic size crowds night after night. Disney fans born in the 1990’s will particularly love the show for its soundtrack and featured movies.

GT Top Tip: Get there early! Crowds are big for this night-time spectacular and you’ll want a good seat. The best seats fill out first.

Disney World remains one of the World’s top tourist destinations for many more reasons than we can list. The immersive environment and attention to detail create a sense of wonder that feels truly magical, making it easy to escape reality, from thrilling rides like Space Mountain to gentle experiences like “It’s a Small World,” there’s something for everyone, catering to all age groups and interests.

New attractions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge showcase cutting-edge technology and storytelling, immersing guests in their favorite franchises like never before.

We’d recommend looking out for special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival that bring unique experiences that change throughout the year. With four main theme-parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom) and two water parks, each offers a unique experience, allowing guests to explore a variety of themes and attractions.

A final few tips from us:

Disney has introduced updated fireworks shows and night-time entertainment at various parks, enhancing the magical atmosphere after dark. Make sure to check the app for what shows are playing which parks on which days.

Another recent change to Disney World and its magic is the reimagined Lightning Lane system: this new system replaced FastPass+, allowing guests to pay for expedited access to attractions, making it easier to plan and fit more into the day! It’s a small change from the recently rolled out Genie+ system.

The Walt Disney World app is powerful and can help you plan your day, make dining reservations and get in line for certain attractions.

Finally, book with The Walt Disney Travel Company for best-available rates.
